Weirdly, I like most things- just a lot of the specific choices were of some of the few things I don't like. I suspect most of these would be more filled out normally.

Secret of Mana. Yes, I am aware how hot a take that is.

My PlayStation nerd shows really hard here.
I'd argue that Ehrgeiz might deserve it but is still fun, and Koudelka is flawed but stands above its own shortcomings with some of the best character writing I've seen in any JRPG.
The other two are just stellar to me.

I mainly play RPGs and the N64 didn't have any of note, so the PlayStation was an easy choice.
No, Quest 64 is not 'of note'. People are free to like it but I found it tedious.

Every time I play Romancing SaGa 3 I put together a little bit more and start to understand things a little better. But damn if it isn't exhausting. I'm really grateful for the remakes 1 and 2 have gotten and hope 3 gets the same treatment someday.

That said, there's several that aren't selected I just didn't get far in. A lot of Anime bounces right off of me. The ones I enjoy, I love, but most of those are too old to be here.

honestly the framing and debate around clair obscur: expedition 33 is so bizarre. it's an incredible game, yes, but it didn't "save" turn-based JRPGs because those never needed saving in the first place.

honestly the "I'm glad they made this JRPG good by not having teen characters" is something I've grown to not really even understand now that I'm well into my adult years, because it's not like they're written like teenagers or deal with teenage problems most of the time

Been seeing this going around, and thought I'd give it a go.
Day 1: Battle Arena Toshinden for the Playstation 1.
It was a mediocre fighting game, but the colorful characters captured my imagination and got me hooked. One of the first fully 3D fighters, it definitely set the stage for better games
