This is a start but we can do better.

Just heard on discussion between @jvl.bsky.social and @timmiller.bsky.social that illiberalism/fascism is special treatment for our in-group and harsh treatment for our out-group. How is the following not true?

After teaching for 30+ years, and 15 adjust at her current school, my wife just landed a tenured position.

My daughter made her this for her birthday.😍

I also just can't get past the decades-long rise of GI-Joe gun culture in which the semiotics of "cool" has been firmly wedded to machines of murder (incl. accessories).

I'm fine with videogames and toys but we don't see people acting out horror movie fantasies on the streets of our cities.

Reading this article and it's fascinating. This just blew my fucking mind though.

I've been on this kick, and I'm sure it sounds hyperbolic but it's been conservatism all along. Right there with us, slowly paving the way, building the ramp.

I actually don't think the case is really hard to make, it's just that the damnation reaches all the way over into center left.

Maybe one day I'll be bothered with the full thing but life is fucked up enough.

This from Orwell's review stands up well enough 3/4 of a century later. 12/12

I believe he's talking about unions here, and I'm not familiar with the specific labor practice - guild memberships? - of excluding people. Am I right to assume he's opposed to unions though? So we can't allow workers to have say over their workplace and management/capital. 7/

This part is fun.

Hayek thinks we should have a basic income (or welfare of some such) for food, shelter, clothing and healthcare.

Right, bro. 6/

Serious question, Why are conservatives such assholes?

GET A JOB. There is no such thing as social inequality, see? It's all in your mind. Or, rather, in your mind, you weak, pathetic, lazy bastard. Oh, and if your ethnic group isn't doing well... could it be....? Nah... Or maybe....? 5/

He's still doing it. I realize European Democratic Socialism hadn't really gotten very far off the ground yet, but is he going to keep going like this, equating socialism with command-economies and their destruction of all that is good? Because, like, OK. Good for you, Hayek. 3/

I'm no scholar, but it sounds like Hayek is saying Socialists primed Germans for totalitarian Nazism with sport clubs and special handshakes. 2/
January 9, 2026 at 4:08 AM
Socialism's apparently a totalitarian state-directed economy. It's the oldest and maybe most dishonest trick in the book. He's outright lying. I don't know how many anti-Nazi socialists in 1945 supported state-directed economies, but it's far from the only definition of socialism. 2/
