Yes, it’s illegal. Like changing it to Department of War, like ten thousand other things. Part of the Trump strategy is to break the law and convey “the rule of law is weak and feminine and laughable and should be overridden by Our Guy.” Trump is fundamentally anti-law.

Also it really can’t be understated how much the voucher scam has helped to take a sledgehammer to public education here. Just a regular stream of these kinds of headlines ever since:

The attitude of the Trump administration is to blame organizations like CDC, rather than ask why America can't be more like other countries
This graph never fails to be shocking: "The US has experienced the earliest and greatest slowdown in life expectancy improvements among higher-income countries, reported Eileen Crimmins. “We have horrible life expectancy—and it’s getting worse and worse”"

Also the Tylenol thing is unfalsifiable. By saying there is an association between something MOST pregnant people do, especially without an alternative, they can claim to have “solved” it. It’s no different than if they said autism was caused by wearing shoes. They get credit without burden of proof

Some folks are still surprised--despite all the data that told us that this was happening and was going to happen--that vouchers and ESAs since their expansion go predominantly to families already in private school or who already homeschool.

Not to mention they’re doing this a few weeks before school starts.
To put it simply: We have a regime focused on eliminating federal support for public education in the U.S.

This administration has canceled grants, withheld funds, fired staff, & is proposing cuts to essential programs students rely on.

It’s chaos. Students deserve better.

Creating labor shortages, weakening higher ed, defunding science, raising prices on inputs - all create an incentive for American companies not to reshore but to move production and operations outside the US. It's literally the opposite of what they are promising or perhaps even understand.
Trump's tariffs increase the prices of many materials used in products, including groceries and items that can't be produced in Colorado. This hurts consumers and encourages companies to build factories in other countries to avoid these tariffs.

This is exactly what happened in 2001, driven by the tax preparation industry, in order to kill a public option for tax reporting. The goal, then and now, is to force citizens to pay private companies in order to do their tax returns.

This is literally true.

School vouchers were pioneered as a way to help white supremacists send their kids to a new wave of private "segregation academies" created expressly for the purpose.
