OTD 1429 Joan of Arc successfully took the town of St Pierre-le-Moutier after a short siege. Once Joan pushed the English out of the Loire and got Chas crowned king (VII)in July, she was becoming a hindrance to the court's effort to forge peace with Burgundy. It was her final victory.

To marry or to die? That is the question. St Eluned (d 6thC),daughter of Welsh king Brychan, ran away from home rather than marry a pagan prince.Villagers wouldn't help bc they were afraid of king.He found & beheaded her. Head rolled downhill, hit a rock & a healing spring arose,as often happens.

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

Think California is a liberal bastion? Know your history. James Phelan was mayor of San Francisco from 1897-1902. He was a U.S. senator from 1915-1921. This is a poster from his 1920 re-election campaign. He lost, but later lobbied successfully to ban Japanese immigrants from coming to California.

Three Yale professors who have written extensively on authoritarianism are leaving the U.S. “We’re like people on the Titanic saying our ship can’t sink,” Marci Shore said. “And what you know as a historian is that there is no such thing as a ship that can’t sink.”
Opinion | We Study Fascism at Yale. We’re Leaving the U.S.
The decision by these three Yale professors to move to Canada is both a warning and a call to action.

My copy of Bones at the Crossroads will be here tomorrow. This will be a good month for YA in my house. I just read an ARC for the third TJ Young book (Antoine Bandele), then I read the third book in Bree’s story (Tracy Deonn) and now I get to read the second book for Malik!
