LIRR reshuffled and buried the ends of the holiday M-9 set in the middle of the train. Goofballs...

Someone should really do an analysis of the Subway GTFS-RT feed to see if NYCT is actually running the increased levels of service the MTA claims they are.

What happened to 6 minute weekend headways on the 1??

Is it really a service improvement if the line is impacted by GO's 46 weekends a year?

Would be sweet if @mtalirr.bsky.social redistributed service on Fridays so people don't have to stand at 1am in the morning!
December 13, 2025 at 5:58 AM
Does NYCT still publish hourly breakdowns of Subway ridership? I am curious what peak volumes are like.

LIRR ridership 8a-9a Fridays is half of what it is mid-week. More than enough to take the edge off peak trains/highway chokepoints even though ridership is more solid/higher rest of day

Remember, the city originally wanted the ferries to be integrated into the MetroCard fare union. But the MTA blocked it, saying they didn't have enough MetroCard equipment (which was a lie) and they'd have to wait for MetroCard replacement.

NYLCV's suggestion to create a integrated multimodal fare between NYCT, NYC Ferry, and Citi Bike is a great one...but MTA's OMNY screw-ups will make that impossible, or at least very impractical for the first year.

Is this why they are trying to rebrand it as the "Midtown Bus Terminal"?
December 2, 2025 at 8:24 PM
Demand is not that lopsided, and Brooklyn ridership was historically higher on the lines that had through service. Lots of people were pushed to the Manhattan terminal(s) because service to Brooklyn and HPA was so bad. www.thelirrtoday.com/2017/11/nov-...

NJTransit's naming rights deal with BetMGM for the Meadowlands rail spur has come to an end, so now the line shows up as white text on a white background on NJT's app 🤦‍♂️

It is definitely because they can't reliably stick to their equipment manipulations. An employee posted today's schedule on Facebook, and already its fifth run of the day is showing a different consist assigned!

Maybe one day MTA will find a better balance between running skimpy Metro-North service where every train is jam packed and regular weekday LIRR service where trains are barely a third full...

But it's late mobile ticket activations that are bankrupting the MTA!!
November 28, 2025 at 2:51 PM
There was a banner message at the top of the ticket wallet that linked to this page. If you already have an account with one of those types, you probably don't see anything.
November 27, 2025 at 6:55 PM
LIRR and Metro-North are sunsetting email-based mobile ticking accounts, requiring riders create new accounts tied to their Apple/Google accounts or phone numbers.

Presumably this is to make it more difficult for riders to create new accounts after the railroads block them for late activations...

LIRR decorated an M-9 set as well.

A clean, on time train with fares that aren't the most expensive in the western hemisphere is enough of a holiday present for me!
November 26, 2025 at 2:43 AM
The NJT 62 bus hasn't been nearly as reliable/good since they opened Terminal A and it blew the headways and travel times out of whack with this convoluted route around the airport...

The Sagtikos corridor would be a very nice spot for a north-south light rail line if the MTA could get its construction costs under control.

Connect Babylon-Deer Park-Kings Park, Heartland/Pilgrim State Hospital, close to Happauge's industrial area, etc. Lots of potential.

The data consistency in US DOT's National Transit Database is pretty garbage...

PATH's proposed 'significant' service increase is actually just a restoration and reshuffling of the service levels they were operating pre-pandemic.

Even playing out all of the proposed service boosts through 2027, PATH will still be operating 2.6% less service hours than they were in 2019.

In March 2027:

NWK-WTC trains will operate every 4 minutes during AM and PM Peak (roughly what they ran in 2019)

Weekend NWK-WTC and HOB-WTC will improve to every 10-15 minutes during the day
November 14, 2025 at 7:03 PM
In May 2026:

All four lines return on weekends
HOB-33rd every 10 min
JSQ-33rd every 10 min
HOB-WTC every 20 min
NWK-WTC every 20 min

This is a big increase in Uptown service on weekends. 10 min headways is better than weekday off-peak (which was cut in May 2023)

Trains run every 20 min til 2a Sat
