Let’s be courteous and ride responsibly!

Operate trains on time and hold connecting trains when late, so customers can have an opportunity to make it to their destination.

LIRR's lack of post-ESA service improvements never really broke through

Riders figured out it was BS, but media never dug past MTA's very aggressive BS abt "41% service increase" & 40 min time savings (even after NYS Comptroller report debunked the claims)

We are too focused on inputs, not outputs

I thought there were 2+ tracks from Bethlehem to Allentown?

There are also still many thousands of MetroCards issued to NYPD and FDNY and I haven't heard about the plan for moving them all to OMNY.

They aren't even running peak service levels at that time, MTA is a little too stuck in the old "rush hour" time periods

Yes, even at these stations there is only one "Customer Service Booth" (and where is not always signed/easy to find). There are other token booths where the agent sits inside and watches Netflix/YouTube and refuses to do any MetroCard transactions.

And also, I was just at Times Square where they were doing another "shift change" at 3pm (with six people waiting) that was estimated to take 20-30 minutes.

They are so so not ready for a couple hundred thousand people digging up expired cards at the end of the month

LMAO no. He means specifically, at the stations listed, there may be multiple booths but only one "CSC" can do Metrocard balance transfers, with only one reader at a time, with an average of 1-2m per transaction and a lot longer if the irate customer doesn't like hearing their card demagnetized

It is just the "Customer Service Center" booths

Citi Bike also does not use OMNY

In SF, you can use Clipper as a key to check out Bay Wheels bikes. But despite same operator (Lyft), same fare system vendor (Cubic) MTA was unable to figure this out

Fracturing fare payment systems makes integrations very hard! www.thelirrtoday.com/2023/12/omny...
OMNY or FMNY? MTA fumbles, insularity spoil hopes for regional fare system
A running joke about the MTA is the one thing they are on time and efficient about is taking your money—but the rollout of the MTA's New Far...

Remember, the city originally wanted the ferries to be integrated into the MetroCard fare union. But the MTA blocked it, saying they didn't have enough MetroCard equipment (which was a lie) and they'd have to wait for MetroCard replacement.

I think the late night service changes are not as big of a deal. There are far fewer riders, and they are generally "all trains run local"

Having different routes on weekdays & weekends (when there are a lot of tourists) is definitely more problematic

Maybe they should bring back the V for wknd F?

Transfers are issued on the bus, not the curbside machines
December 3, 2025 at 6:48 PM
There's always been a workaround for that (program the bus fareboxes to always issue transfers if paying with coins or MetroCard... this is what they do in SF)
December 3, 2025 at 6:05 PM
It is just like reducing the validity period for rail tickets from 60 days to 1 day...MTA is saddling riders with all of the inconvenience of fare collection/proof of payment without any of the benefits (lower costs/fares, faster buses)
December 3, 2025 at 3:42 AM
I wonder if they use pathways.txt/transfers.txt to define the minimum connection time or if Apple Maps determins that themselves.
