I’m fascinated to discover that there is a documented speech by Abraham Lincoln in which he uses the phrase “That is cool.”

Mildly under the weather today. I’m told you shouldn’t drink coffee when sick, but I really don’t want a caffeine withdrawal headache on top of my other symptoms. Is my logic sound?

Stephen Miller, who wants the U.S. to steal Greenland and shake down Latin America, says: ”We live in a world … that is governed by force, that is governed by power. These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.”
That‘s a criminal pretending that a civilized world is impossible.

amazing how the entire machine can pivot within 24 hours. no need to slowly upsell the argument; just issue new marching orders

What's especially insane about all of this is that Maduro is going to get more due process than the Venezuelan migrants deported to CECOT.

I liked the New Yorker documentary, but tell me, is it just me, or did they weirdly go out of their way to avoid mentioning Dorothy Parker by name? They even included a direct quote from her, but only identified the source as “a colleague.”

When I bought this 9’ tree it was wrapped up and seemingly scrawny, but now after it’s had a chance to spread out again it is so beautiful and magnificent that I’m considering not decorating it at all.

I’m very amused by the Music Theory Facebook group, where a heated debate has raged for DAYS over: what is the key of Tito Puente’s Oye Como Va?
(There’s a strong amateur vs professional subtext there also)

It breaks my brain when Waze is counting down the remaining distance and reaches 10 miles remaining—then after about 1 more mile reaches…9.9 miles.
So is 10 really 11, 11 really 12, etc…?

Make it make sense.

Call me a cockeyed optimist, but ultimately I believe it will backfire if they keep repeatedly referring to fairly normal Americans as “the Radical Left.”

The surname Sogard is of Danish origin and is derived from the Old Norse personal name Sǫgǫrðr, which means "sea enclosure" or "sea farm." It is a patronymic surname, indicating that it was originally used to identify the descendants of a person named Sǫgǫrðr.

Currently loving Dept Q. The scenes of captivity aren’t working for me, but all else is brilliant: great writing, great characters, great performances, great direction.

Celtic Woman, if you're not familiar, is like if someone asked an AI to create a band for people who really love Barry Manilow, Enya, and Disney musicals, and then at the *very last second* they mumbled "oh yeah, maybe one of them had an Irish grandma."

Overheard in a bakery today, someone explaining to his friend what monkey bread is and the friend competely nonplussed as to why it was “terrible”, since the description otherwise sounded so good.

That moment when you are browsing insanely expensive audiophile gear and realize that Yes, you *would* pay those prices, but only if they cured your tinnitus.
