Thing posted elsewhere: traditional book publishing is not a “service” in the sense that a publisher “pitches” themselves to authors in hopes of being accepted. So “we’re looking for publishers, but you can’t sell your products, only pitch to authors” does not work the way you think it does.

will just repeat that if you straight up replaced the current Canada Council grants system with this it would fund about 1000 more artists per year for the same amount of money and immeasurably greater stability

Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
