Extremely important thread if you care about the democratic future of the US.⬇️

JB Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are doing something new and important: They understand Stephen Miller's theory of fascist power politics, and they've developed a theory on how to combat it. More Dems need to reckon with Miller's understanding of the moment.

New from me:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

This also needs to go hand in hand with focusing on designs that reduce energy consumption, something which we are not doing (see the energy intensive AI infrastructure that the EU is currently very busy promoting.

If your business model depends on stealing stuff without compensation, maybe it’s a bad business model and deserves to die.

@govpritzker.illinois.gov spelling out loud what will happen in the mid term elections if Trump's power grab will continue unchallenged.

Pritzker: "He wants to militarize major cities because he wants us to get used to the idea of troops on the streets. I believe he's gonna post people outside of polling places and if he needs to in order to control those elections, he'll assume control of the ballot boxes & count the votes himself"

Musk is building an $18 billion + AI facility in Memphis that will support over 500,000 AI chips. It's causing blackouts, health problems, sky rocketing utility bills to local residents, which are obviously expendable because t's all about the power and money of billionaires that matters.

Little surprise there. A lot of the maga cheerleaders on X during Trump's second campaign came as far as India and the Philippines. Add to that the Maga bots and you are probably just looking at the tip of the iceberg of pro maga fakery.

Trump is going to track Americans’ every move.

This is in addition to Palantir tracking us using our private financial, health and travel data, social media, donations — and more.

If you think they’re only tracking “illegals” or “Antifa,” then you haven’t been paying attention.

Setting a chronological feed by default and not being force fed a manipulated algorithm should be a basic prerequisite for any social media that wants to operate in Europe.

This study about Russia using criminal gangs to carry out terrorist attacks to destabilise Europe makes a chilling reading. Sabotage, vandalism, arson, assassination are all on the table, hand in hand with attempts to influence our elections through social media.

The clear rules that set out when to jam and bring down enemy drones over Europe are ridiculously late.

One of Europe’s biggest air defense companies is warning that its top secret factories are being overflown by increasing numbers of drones.

And it wants clear rules on how to jam or bring them down.

Israel's global standing is in the gutter. It has used Hamas horrific kidnapping of civilians as an excuse for a massive illegal landgrab and brutal displacement of Palestinian people which is wrong on every level. History will be the judge.

It's interesting to see it depicted visually, but this really brings the point home how a strong social prohibition on the far-right is actually much to the benefit of centre-right parties, who become hegemonic electoral juggernauts.

In our - very limited - historical experience of democracy,

(i) states rot from the centre-right
(ii) and it's contagious (via geography/powerful exemplar states)

This is a golden opportunity to expose the enormous damage the Trump administration is doing. If all those not getting paid did not show up for work much of the country would grind to a standstill and perhaps the penny would finally drop.

There is a sea between 'sort of'. Nothing Trump says or promises can be taken at face value.

After 39 years of the Franco dictatorship there was no confrontation or Nuremberg trial. No one was made accountable for the atrocities committed during his regimes and the far right kept bubbling beneath the surface barely challenged.

I wonder what's behind all these high profile deaths. A conspiracy against Putin? I still retain some hope that he will be overthrown one day.

Hamas deserves the worse for their abhorrent abduction and treatment of the hostages but I think the question should be 'Even if hostages are released will Nethaniau stop the annihilation of Palestinians?'. I fear the answer is no

You've probably seen a lot of angry posts today about how "Angela Merkel blamed Poland and the Baltics for the Ukraine war" in a recent interview.

They're far off the mark — she did no such thing! 👇
