I’m gonna name it. This isn’t a case of “legitimately differing opinions.” It is blatant professorial malpractice to adopt/allow genAI (or really *any* new edtech) just b/c we are told that we must. Especially in the humanities classroom, the only “ethical use” or reasonable stance is to keep it out

There is definitely a belief that we aren’t working hard enough, but the really harmful obsession is that student learning must always be measurable. Everything must be quantified and observed. In that mindset, independent reading is a waste of time.

So in sum: Google put a result at the top of the page that (1) did not seem to actually come from where they claimed to have gotten it and (2) was wrong. What worked in the end was good old-fashioned close attention, logic and patience. (/fin)
