Wonderful! Hope it goes well, and it would be interesting to hear back. It's pre-Victorian, but what about how Stephenson crossed Chat Moss? And Brunel's broad gauge?

It's this sort of bitty, piecemeal approach that so frustrates US. Not really surprising they despise us, a bunch of tiny, fractious little countries that can't get their act together. And until we can start behaving as a United States of Europe we're almost a hopeless cause.

We'd love to believe you, and some of us do. The problem is, it might happen again. Lots of your politicians will be noticing how easy it is to enrich oneself and impress an ignorant electorate.
