There are a whole bunch of folks joining here. Howdy!
I'm Tom, I'm wrapping up my PhD at the U of Minnesota Applied Econ department. I study exemptions to the minimum wage, search models, discrimination, and corporate social responsability.
I've been reviewer #3 this whole time. Sorry I took so long

The econ PhD market will be difficult this year. The exact same thing happened when I went on the market years ago: I sent out 150 applications...and got 1 interview! Then I wrote a paper about it! ideas.repec.org/p/feb/natura...

Both sides of the market responded. Is this happening now too?

Frog doesn't do as much physical damage as Crono, as much magic damage as Lucca, or heal as much as Marle, but they are still a good all around-er

Edit, Cengiz switched between calling it a bunching and a stacking estimator between drafts. I'm still excited to see it applied.

The current lit on the minimum wage, food insecurity, and determinants of health comes from JP Leigh, William Rodgers, and Caitlin Caspi, each relying on difference and difference, usually geographic. I'm excited to see more from the bunching estimator in the lineage of Cengiz et al.

New WP: We study how minimum wage increases affect poverty and food hardship in the U.S from 1981-2019. Different from recent work, we study the Supplemental Poverty Measure + two measures of food hardship, factor in cost-of-living differences, and more. www.iza.org/publications...

Structural Modelling

Honestly though, I think even if your paper gives an intent to treat, that is an interesting estimand if you make the case for it. We are not interested in some average treatment effects on the non-treated (my estimate suffers from an equilibrium effect? Good.)

Has anyone liked or disliked any particular training resources for machine learning in Stata? Courses, videos...

If not in Stata, then in Python or R but pitched towards people trained in econometrics?

I'm getting my updated vaccine next week. There is so much denial in the US about this situation! Thanks to Mike Hoerger PhD. #COVID #publichealth #vaccine
This map of the US shows COVID levels per state, based on CDC wastewater data and levels, as of 15 September. There are many states in the very high or high category. My own state of VA is high. Included in the very high category are FL, TX, CA, NC, SC, CT and quite a few others.

Since we’re talking about political violence, know this:

“The murder rate for Black politicians in Reconstruction was 2,317 per 100,000. This rate is 20 times greater than *any* *other* demographic in the United States as of 2020, where the highest homicide rate was less than 105 per 100,000.”
