NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is now unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war

I know we’re making jokes cause shit is terrifying & we’re coping…

but this shit is real.

Solidarity with Mark Bray, who has done tremendous research on fascism that has informed our struggle. Wishing you & your family safety.

“Someone” cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second.

We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’

i had this random idea the other day and today i made it!

carefax. a form you can fill out to help your friends, partners, lovers, and community show up for you, and you for them.

i’m working on a fillable template, but i wanted to see if people liked the concept and thought i should add anything

love this a lot. I’ve been trying to come up with something similar as a light weight form of (and introduction to) mad mapping and care menus and these items are perfect.

it sucks that the ai stink is so bad you can't even make a funny joke rng and claim it's ai as a bit because cool people won't fuck with it enough to figure out the joke

I’m inclined to agree with your pessimism, which feels wild to say given that I’m asking people on the internet to be _more_ pedantic but here we are lol
threlk.net
kinda feel like we need to push back harder on the slopification of “AI” — let’s be pedantic, is it a large language model? Or are you talking about conversational interfaces? Or procedurally generated content? Or artificial intelligence in the cybernetics sense? Or transformer models? Or???

having lived basically most of my life without any of these things, it’s truly amazing how life changing it is to have what you need (and more!) within a mile or so. also: deeply upsetting how rare this is.

we should all live like this!
threlk.net
this thread, the post about stamps down thread, and my recent adventures in ohio make me once again deeply grateful to live mere blocks from a corner with an ace hardware (pens, stickies, and soap sold also), a laundry, a small fancy grocery with usps pickup, coffee shop, and bus stop

Today's entry in Back In My Day, Stores Carried Things is sticky notes and normal pens. I went to way more places than I wanted to, including a cute stationery store that happened to be near one of my other errands, looking for them before giving up and going to an office supply chain store.

When I talk about how y’all need to cut it out with trying to solve people problems with tech, this is a prime example of what I’m going on about.

Men will badly implement 1970s psychology with the GitHub activity history rather than go to therapy? Seriously?? C’mon

Psychometrics and evidence science folks, I feel like we need to help software engineering out more because they are trying to measure constructs like depersonalization via software activity data?!?!!?

Jack Posobiec explicitly says that "Antifa" dates back to the Weimar Republic, explicitly acknowledging that this administration is opposed to those who resisted the arrival of Adolf Hitler in Power.

idk. I voted against trump because I didn't want people to suffer. it's hard to feel especially thrilled now that people are suffering, even if some of them voted for him.

cute story but clocks don't even go that high. disinformation isn't funny.

I very often think about this post from @notalawyer.bsky.social back on the bad place

imagine the pieces that could, and should, be written about the rube goldberg of human suffering
Law Boy, Esq. @The_Law_Boy:
same day delivery is the most American shit of all time, you run out of deodorant or something and with a single click start a Rube Goldberg of human suffering in an Amazon warehouse twenty miles

Kash Patel wearing the corniest Christmas camo punisher skull sweatshirt with his own podcast advertised on the sleeve, wearing his own merch hat too and another behind him, in front of an American flag challenge coin holder that also contains stickers for his podcast buster bluth in fatigues with arms full of stuffed animals. Finally and VERY importantly, I donated to Blacksky. They're doing incredibly important work and I wanna support it. bsky.app/profile/greg...
threlk.net
to make it as clear as possible: my goals in going anywhere other than myatproto are use my tolerance for a less smooth experience to

- continue putting resources into the blacksky project without _consuming_ their resources
- test viability of deeper corners of the network
- be weird? lol
threlk.net
I’ll be joining the migration wave in the next week or so, with myatproto.social as the likely destination

before I make the jump: are there other options to look at? Blacksky is an _amazing_ project and I’ll support them regardless, but I’m open to less popular options if they’re seeking users
gregpak.net
So last night I migrated @gregpak.net from Bluesky to Blacksky's myatproto.social server for non-Black users! A few thoughts on the process for anyone thinking about this...

whew. that took a while! but it looks like i'm done! all blobbed up in blobtown!

I agrew up in a fairly moderate republican pro-Reagan environment. I too believed in “small government” and “liberty and justice for all”. But then I realized that many only believed this in a very individualistic & a non-universal way. I think this is why I gravitated toward anarchism.
iwriteok.bsky.social
as a kid growing up right-wing i regularly heard people express their desire for "a government so small I can drown it in the bathtub". imagine my surprise growing up to realize i was the only one who actually believed that.
