I believe it's to merge the various language versions for bug tracking/version control; e.g. German and English versions (both different skus) both update to the universal version now.

Fully agree. Everyone I've told about it including AI has told me they didn't know, and that's somehow more frustrating. I've had people argue because it doesn't have a disclosure on Steam.
