Harrell needs to pick up any anti-fascist/anti-authoritarian book, quickly. Radical hope, love, resistance, and a bold social program are the only hope we have to combat fascism. Telling people to not hope is dangerous.

The conversation between Klein and Coates showed me that a lot of people who screech about “infighting” on the left aren’t aware of the fact that marginalized people have been forced to learn how to regulate their emotions during conflict, and so, are better able to hear what’s actually being said.

Harrell notes that under his leadership, they've cut red tape to let projects like affordable housing at Fort Lawton move forward. "I know housing policy. It is a tough issue, Seattleites, a tough issue, but you have a mayor who is doing everything possible to do it, particularly for young couples."

Describing her childhood in a "fifth-story walkup apartment" in Queens where everyone was "on top of each other," Rivera says it was very hot in her apartment and she was grateful for parks. If this is her priority, then why were all her tree amendments about private trees on house owners' lawns?
