Destrega is a 3D Platform Fighting-Game by Koei, that features totally free-range movement, beating Power Stone to the punch by a full year! Unlike Power Stone, where you throw furniture, Destrega offers players a variety of Projectiles to zone each other out! Plus, it has Dynasty Warriors costumes!

gosh do i love dynasty warriors origins

the attention to detail is just beautiful, with weather transitions, from wet clothes to dirty clothes, and even skin details, like battle dirt or even a damn vein in someone's eye, or a red eye from fatigue

koei tecmo really crafted something special man <3

A cool issue and an ode to the diversity of games on the Saturn. Here’s Koei’s Dark Hunter, a supernatural thriller that was part of a larger franchise aimed towards teaching players English. The scenario was written by none other than Kaoru Kurimoto of Guin Saga fame!

#RandomGameSaturday this week is both versions of Koei's WinBack: Covert Operations.

Koei's attempt at a Metal Gear Solid clone, I played the N64 original as a kid and really liked it. In retrospect I don't think it was good then or now, but it WAS my first foray into stealth action games.

Koei released the PS2 port a year later, in 2000, on a blue-bottomed PS2 CD, I guess it was a pretty quick turnaround. But the graphics are quite a bit better, plus it's much nicer to play on a DualShock 2.

Apparently the way it handled cover influenced later games, including MGS2 a year later.

Eiji Aonuma hinted that the next mainline Zelda title could by elements from 'Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment'

“Still, the inspiration we’ve gained from collaborating with Koei Tecmo like this may be reflected in the next Zelda we create"

In light of discussions as to what constitutes an independent game, here are some game programs that appeared in the November 1982 issue of Technopolis, written by who I have to strongly presume is Nasir Gebelli of Final Fantasy fame.

Like wargames, the computer boom was foundational to the emergence of JRPGs. As seen in Takizawa Hiroyuki's manga, Road to Dragon Quest, development teams would host programming contests to lure in new talent who were honing their skills through hobbyist programming.

Here’s multi-millionaire Kou Shibusawa explaining to Arino how he sold Koei’s first title—made on cassette—by mail. Shibusawa goes on to tell Arino that he also played the role of customer tech support with players calling him to ask why the game wasn’t booting (their tape drive weren’t clean).

Taking a break from the list with a real sicko's pick - Bladestorm: Nightmare. One of Koei's wierdest games. A regiment-level action-strategy game (think Dynasty Warriors but you control 30 guys at once) set in a gloriously mangled version of the Hundred Years War.

Usually overpriced. $15 for now.

What does "traditional Atelier" mean?
Traditional Atelier is probably dead due to how terrible it's been treated by Koei Tecmo and the current Gust brand :/

I wonder what Junzo Hosoi will say on 4gamer's Developer Ambitions yearly article... Probably just another one of his trendchasing agendas once again, which is not a good sign lol

The second Dreamcast installment of Koei's classic line of Political Society Simulators - Nobunaga's Ambition! This installment carries on the cerebral, granular gameplay of it's predecessors, allowing players to tax citizens to fund war!
