Please be aware that there is a scrapple sculpting contest at the Reading Terminal Market tomorrow at noon. (If you don’t know what this means you probably don’t want to.)

(If we had inexperienced coders who may or may not even have been subject to proper security checks doing God knows what with AI and the most important systems in the federal government, I might be kind of worried.)

There are many things here that demand explanation and that’s definitely one of them.

Well I finally found the one subject that turned Evelyn Waugh’s ear to lead
In that minute, with her lips to my ear and her breath warm in the salt wind, Julia said, though I had not spoken, "Yes, now," and as the ship righted herself and for the moment ran into calmer waters, Julia led me below.

So at sunset I took formal possession of her as her lover. It was no time for the sweets of luxury; they would come, in their season, with the swallow and the lime-flowers. Now on the rough water, as I was made free of her narrow loins and, it seemed now, in assuaging that fierce appetite, cast a burden which I had borne all my life, toiled under, not knowing its nature--now, while the waves still broke and thundered on the prow, the act of possession was a symbol, a rite of ancient origin and solemn meaning.

Sort of an Occam’s razor thing—”Is it likelier that this person wrote a story after their brain was caved in with a hammer or that they’re trying to reduce the attack surface?”

Before complaining about some tortured description of something’s illegality in The Media, a good question to ask is whether the person apparently violating the law is a multibillionaire with a habit of filing frivolous but extremely expensive to defend against defamation suits

I 've had people yell at me for noting that Donald Trump is world-historically charismatic and it's like, look, I don't find his vaudeville routine particularly entertaining myself but all of this isn't an accident.

“My job is to go for the jugular against the Irish media and I will do that until I end up like Charlie Kirk" — Eddie Hobbs

The speed at which US far-right talking points cross the Atlantic and are weaponzied by Irish figures on the right is now almost instantaneous

At a Conspiracy Conference in Rural Ireland, Charlie Kirk Was the Star
The increasingly tight links between far-right groups in the US and Europe were on full display at the Rebels Across the Pond conference in Ireland. The star of the show? Charlie Kirk.

SCOOP: PA prosecutors were alerted to possible voting irregularities by one of MAGA's leading voices. A long paper trail shows Jack Posobiec has been living in Maryland but voting using his parent's address in Pennsylvania for years. Me with @marisakabas.bsky.social

A long paper trail shows that Jack Posobiec casts a ballot in one state and lives in another.

Not trying to join the dunk party here, just want to note that the author is on Anthropic's economic advisory council.

I'm sorry: "if I wish to see a virgin on-screen"?
My Favorite Actress Is Not Human
Tilly Norwood doesn’t need a hairstylist, has no regrettable posts, and if you wish to see a virgin on-screen, this is one of your better chances. That’s because she’s AI.

A picture of some AI girl standing on an AI landscape with an AI monster behind her. I'm gonna be so real: she looks about 14

I'm pretty skeptical anyone who didn't watch Pride FC when it existed is going to get anything out of watching The Rock going for an Oscar, but The Smashing Machine, the actual documentary The Smashing Machine is based on, is amazing.
‘The Smashing Machine’ Review: Dwayne Johnson in Agony
The former wrestler plays real-life mixed-martial-arts fighter Mark Kerr in a movie co-starring Emily Blunt and directed by Benny Safdie.

It costs us nothing to credit other reporters, though I do understand in some newsrooms it costs a billion dollars each time you do it.

A PR person for ABC asked me to stop asking about Pete Hegseth's speech during this episode about the death of Vanessa Guillén.

They emailed me today and asked I not include the interruption in the final show.

I will not. So tune in to listen to a lecture from a PR person about Guillén's legacy.

NEW: Workers at the SBA got a template from HR suggesting they set out-of-office replies blaming Democrats for the shutdown, which would appear to be a blatant Hatch Act violation; at HUD, even internal systems have a weird pop-up blaming "the Radical Left." @telliotter.bsky.social has the details!
Federal Workers Are Being Told to Blame Democrats for the Shutdown
Workers at one agency were given unhinged, partisan language to use when setting out-of-office replies.

Ever since he helped avert a government shutdown in March—citing WIRED’s reporting on Elon Musk as part of his rationale—Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer has been waiting for this moment to redeem himself.

The problem is, he may have already blown his chance: www.wired.com/story/chuck-...

The Senate minority leader is seeking to redeem himself as the government shuts down. Democratic insiders say it may be too late.
