That may help explain these spring like bike count numbers… 🤔

By 4:30 PM on Jan 12, 2026, over 700 people rode past this daily counter on the 5 St SW cycle track in Calgary.

Ahhh, the sandwich board! Is there anything it can’t [attempt to] solve! 😂

I agree, but my guess is there's a preference to keep them high so not to receive graffiti or stickers. Unfortunately it means kids biking to the elementary school one block away will have to look way up to notice them.

These wheeling lanes are brand new as of Nov and haven't been "opened" yet because the signage hadn't been installed yet. They also haven't been plowed yet. I have witnessed people walk in them, before it snowed, but generally people stay on the raised sidewalk beside the wheeling lanes.

Looks like you have a case of hypofenderism of the front wheel. You need to transplant a bigger fender to get the splash down and save yourself from winter grime on the drive train! 😂

My thought is they’ve placed these mini stop signs so high that many/most riders may not even notice them. They will however see the large sign… so the what’s the point of bothering with the small sign? 🤷‍♂️

No that’s not it. 🤷‍♂️

Here’s a photo from 3 years ago. This seemed fine. 🤷‍♂️

I suggested a basic reasonable amount of water billed at normal rates. That gives equality to all.

Escalating rates above that is effectively the automation of fines for over consumption. 👍

Car wash businesses in Calgary protect the environment by having people clean their cars in a location where the water is not only reused but more importantly doesn’t go down the storm drain and directly into the river which is what would happen without them as people would wash at home. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t know when Google Maps is updated. You reminded me to submit a suggested revision. Let’s see when it shows up. 🤷‍♂️

Makes sense… so many photos and videos online the last few days of the Dutch bicycling in the snow… ❄️ 🚲

There will be water restrictions off and on for the next 2 years until the redundant pipe is built. Banning car washes at L4 could very well result in car wash businesses closing. Not a good thing.

A better approach would be to work with car washes to get them off potable water.

Yet somehow when a price per litre was placed on water, Calgarians responded with lower usage. 👇

BTW Car washes do eventually get banned, just not at Level 4 that we are at currently.

All Calgarians know how to reduce their water usage. Every single one of them.

You just have to give them a financial incentive. Exhibit 11👇
