I didn't want summer to end so I put off watching the last episodes of City. Unfortunately, despite my best efforts, the leaves are changing colours anyway

As I wrote 10 years ago in my final magazine: you have immediate access to decades of games/scans/videos/etc. to make a unique gaming text. You can go bigger than a zine and still make it look cool, and you don't have to make yet another platform/genre catalog. Curate and craft for god's sake

For anyone lamenting how some goon was able to get a publishing deal - put together your own book! Create a solid concept, do some planning, create a design, and pitch it! Most publishers don't have open pitch seasons. They want to see someone that can see a full project to completion.

This is the best sticker that they have ever put on a game box. Even better than ‘Featuring Dante…’

shared a few dope things that have been on my mind lately in this newsletter i put out for friends: rumi.cat/eric
four images. 1. the cover of milkman by anna burns, depicting a figure walking on th ebeach with a vibrant purple and orange sunset behind them. 2. a collection of proxxon bench-top tools, including a table saw, a drill press, a sander, and a lathe. 3. photographer and political activist cecil j. williams reenacting his famous photo of himself drinking from a fountain bearing a "white only" sign. 4. the cover of Popeye's special edition issue titled "Hello, Tokyo! A Guide for Exploring Japan's Capital City", depicting a man reading a tokyo guide in a room, as godzilla is seen from the window, walking across the city.

"A handheld game console isn't fun if it's not in colour"

Happy 35th birthday, Sega Game Gear! Released in Japan on 6th October 1990!

Sega's foray into 8-bit handheld gaming carved out a respectable little fan base, has some interesting periphs, and is still getting new games made for it today.
A Japanese ad for the Game Gear with a lady sporting some pleasingly orange and tan clothing and a straw hat holding up a Gear Gear in both hands and smiling at the viewer. Game screenies zigzag along the bottom.

Had a dream a while back in which I discovered the existence of the "Grave of the Fireflies/Super Mario World 2-in-1" for the Wii. It basically functioned as a DVD except for a "special features" section that literally only had an SNES emulator playing Mario World. It went for absurd prices on eBay
The cover for a fake Wii game consisting of both the 1988 Studio Ghibli film, Grave of the Fireflies, and Super Mario World; both are represented on the cover, the former by the poster of Seita carrying his sister Setsuko across a field and the latter by the artwork of Mario wearing a cape and riding Yoshi. The cover promises "TWO classics in ONE!".

Hard for me fault anyone who doesn’t know good games exist when almost no major gaming website reviewed or covered this year’s Seamus McNally Grand Prize winner.
