I genuinely think that camera based enforcement is anathema to a lot of agencies and politicians because they sincerely believe that a bit of red light breaking or speeding by otherwise "decent" people is no biggie.

My secret evil plot to ‘destroy Britain’ has been unveiled by (checks notes) the same paper that endorsed Liz Truss.

If I don’t know better I’d say we’ve got them entirely rattled.

😂. It's can't be antisocial if it costs more than €50k, right?

That's a good one. Apart from all the other flaws with "more cars make streets safer", I like that it's based on the well-documented tendency of drivers to notice anything outside their windscreen, let alone stop, get out and do something.

Bleak. Eating less meat is going to be a vital part of decarbonising but all these idiots can do is piss about with naming that makes it slightly less likely that people will switch

What's sad is the "antisocial behaviour" itch is a strong one with some local authorities and other bodies e.g. it's used to justify closing permeability between housing estates etc (more driving instead, cool!). So it might get traction.

It's refreshing to hear a political leader call them "right wing shit rags". You don't often get that kind of accuracy in politics.

It's weird letting grammar rules take precedent over readability. I'm pretty pedantic about a lot of this stuff, but only because poor grammar, spelling, punctuation etc. push unnecessary work onto me, the reader, which ultimately dilutes what the writer is trying to say.

I realise that people's livelihoods are at stake, so a "told you so!" isn't helpful, but they could at least push it back on to ministers and fishing leadership that throwing in the odd mention of "sustainability" isn't enough.

Open to correction, but I can't see a single mention in a long piece of warnings by scientists/environmental groups that the quotas themselves would lead to exactly this situation.

On personal footprint, this is deliberately obfuscated by lobbying. e.g. recent report showed how link between diet (if you live in rich country) and emissions is underappreciated. Media reporting avoids "much less meat/dairy" whenever possible. Which is, I guess, why is lower down your list!

Was it "cranky headmaster who doesn't like being challenged" mode for this one?

I was traumatised by Missile Command's apocalyptic world-building every time I played it in the barbershop on my walk home from school.

There's nothing that a VAT cut can't kickstart.

I take the broader point about quality of education, but unfortunately when you have a finely-balanced system (as we do in Ireland) whereby access to university courses (and, in turn, certain lucrative professions) is dependent on tiny margins then better resourced schools will improve access.

I'm Jewish. I'm also Mancunian.

Every other national party leader was interviewed by Laura Kunesberg during their conference.

Maybe the BBC thought as someone who also supports Palestine - I had nothing to say?

The response from the Minister's representative at yesterday's meeting in Leinster House was shocking.

It's very clear that this government is not taking road safety seriously and people will die as a result.

Jason Cullen from the Dublin Commuter Coalition said a response from a staff member from the Junior Transport Minister, Sean Canney's office, during that presentation, was alarming.

"The clear indication that we got from the Minister's staff member there, was that it would be at least 18 months before we see any form of instruction to local county councils.

'When I pointed out to him that within that time 20 to 30 cyclists will probably have been killed on our roads due to the current trends that we're seeing, the response from him was that it is 'regrettable' that that will happen.

"It really took my breath away."

If you say it with an earnest "decent" expression you're off the hook.

Non-compliance under our licence system appears to be more the norm than the aberration when it comes to protecting our water quality

Deputy Whitmore asking the question we all want to know the answer to.

Although they didn't say it, it seems the answer to the question about when the EPA pull the plug on a non-compliant discharge licence is never. They never have to date.

Polluters can do their thing and still get licenced.
