It is Friday afternoon of a wild, wild week. And yet for me a reassuring one. My greatest fear was not of what they would do. It's that we would let them. And I'm seeing a lot of beautiful intransigence. From federal workers. From people all over the country obstructing ICE....

Dammit, I really wanted to like that movie after reading loads of positive reviews. And I like Statham! But Wrath of Man was so much better. And Mechanic! Shit, even Crank was better
On a somewhat tangentially related note to today's events, there's a reason 'The Beekeeper' was Jason Statham's highest grossing solo film ever.

Definitely setting this aside for a rainy day. God, that blue background. Those white menus. Courier everywhere! The way I had to struggle with kerning to talk to my dot matrix printer.
Remember WordPerfect 5.1? Well you can run it on modern-day computers with a little effort.

This is a very fun project to make it work on modern-day Linux, which can be installed for free from the Windows app store. It's got a lot more goodies than the original DOS version that you may have used.

Brilliant
People enjoy the myth that the word avocado originally meant "testicle" in Nahuatl. Sadly it is a myth; it's simply that, as we call testicles nuts, Aztecs apparently called them avocados. What's more fun is the word for gold and silver: teocuitlatl, literally "god-excrement".

I think this is a good point. Biden took the hit in the media for inflation when it was global and actually better in the US than elsewhere, so I kind of expect the narrative to flip for Trump given that the election was supposedly about vanquishing Biden and his inflation.
Many people here are saying as soon as tariffs impact inflation it will hurt him politically. But I don’t know that this is true. You can get an awful lot of mileage from positive press, scapegoating enemies and appearing to get political wins from interested parties.

Just realized I could add accounts to lists without also following them.

Great for my breaking news list. I can include everything and not have some of the accounts I was unsure about filling up my primary feed !

It would be a wise pivot among those who value technocratic expertise to embrace humility (a must if you embrace uncertainty)

If you think public policy has a place in solving complex problems, Charles Sabel’s call for “humble governments” is worth taking on board

The ending of #TokyoSwindlers just totally f***** me up. It either sets up a second season based on takumi-san finding revenge on Harrison, or it hammers the point that in this post-pandemic age bad guys always win. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth

Trump has so far appointed a very professional economic team that Wall Street loves, but we have no idea what they are going to actually do on taxes, spending, and interest rates.

I learned a lot from this conversation. It was great to sit down with someone who could explain in plain English how the conspiracy tropes about climate change were wrong. Considering I once believed so many of them, this was enlightening!
Revisit our conversation with Rupert Read, director of the Climate Majority project, where we explored and conquered the climate change denial rabbit hole

We had questions, Rupert had answers. Join us and discover where the truth lies.
