mulling over backloggd goty, i don't think many games had particularly great soundtracks this year. i am spiritually opposed to putting down mario kart world because A: those are not new songs and B: those versions of those songs are often not as interesting as the originals.

im kinda surprised everyone credited for music on metroid prime 3 is just someone who had been at nintendo for over a decade at that point. that game specifically has this sort of bizarre star wars-ey sound. like you could have easily convinced me they got the rogue squadron composer or something.

the environment art is incredible, i think this is one of the best looking FPS ever made.
you can't use the gamecube style controls, there are two jump buttons but you have to double tap jump to dodge, the first thing the game asks is if you want "dual stick fusion" or "pointer fusion".

Metroid Prime 4 having a 4K60 quality mode and 1080p120 performance mode is really funny because it means that even though PS5 and XSX are more powerful and "should" have "better" looking games, MP4 is the literal very first console game this generation where I would pick quality mode.

the thing with games that get both a switch 1 and switch 2 physical version is that i prefer the way that the switch 2 spines look, but the front box art is almost always 25% disclaimer at the bottom, so I'd rather just get the switch 1 version and upgrade it.
