Join our six-week online course that invites you to reimagine urban life through the lens of post-growth thinking, an approach that recognises that more GDP doesn’t always mean better lives, especially when it comes at the cost of social equity and ecological survival. www.tni.org/en/event/cit...

What's driving land grabbing in the world today?

Our hot-off-the-press open access paper shows land grabbing is now shaped by:
1. geopolitics
2. financialization
3. climate policies

We set out why it matters, how people respond, and what's to be done @plaasuwc.bsky.social @tninstitute.bsky.social
The ‘return’ of land grabbing?
This introductory paper to the Special Forum on ‘The Return of Land Grabbing’ examines the evolving dynamics of land grabbing. We argue that land grabbing never disappeared but has persisted and tr...

Land is life. Who has access to what land and under what conditions partly determines who gains and who loses. Land politics shape food, climate, labour, migration, democracy, and geopolitics. Democratizing land regimes is difficult but absolutely necessary for a just future.

Land is at the heart of people’s livelihoods and cultures, and communities worldwide struggle to secure access against corporate and state power. The Oxford Handbook of Land Politics shows how land is never just about production but also about care, migration, and justice www.tni.org/en/article/t...

We don’t need more detention & deportation flights. We need investment in housing, schools & healthcare.

Civil society calls on the EU to withdraw this Regulation and build policies rooted in dignity, care & solidarity.

3️⃣ Surveillance & punishment:

From racial profiling & raids, to GPS tagging & phone surveillance, to punishing people for being “uncooperative” - this is about control, not care.

2️⃣ Expansion of detention

Detention could be extended up to 24 months - even for children. This creates profits for private contractors while destroying people’s health & dignity.

1️⃣ Deportations without ties:

The proposal allows people to be deported to countries they’ve never set foot in. Families & communities would be torn apart, with lives pushed into danger & limbo.

🚨 The EU’s new “Return Regulation” is in reality a Deportation Regulation.

It expands detention - including in offshore sites - fuels racial profiling & strips away rights.

Here’s why civil society is united in rejecting it ⬇️
