French sports minister "I am one who believes in keeping sport separate [from politics]. The World Cup is an extremely important moment for those who love sport."
Absolute bullshit, it is entangled with politics or else they wouldn’t have given Trump a made up prize.

Europe should threaten to boycott the World Cup it is about the best negotiating card we have. Problem is that they won’t because the sporting bodies don’t see themselves as political (even though that is just not true, see FIFA peace prize ….)

You cannot appease Trump.

You can either have greater leverage or - even better - remove yourself from whatever power he has.

There is nothing else to do.

At least Woodrow Wilson’s notion of a League of Nations did not involve the United States bombing each country in turn and then claiming a FIFA peace prize.

Politicians are terrified of an electorate they think is far more authoritarian and angry and right wing than it actually is, because they are out of touch because the literal media - the thing that mediates between public and polity - is corrupted

A US court has already ruled that Trump WAS trying to interfere with the 2020 election result. So hard to prove that the BBC saying that, albeit with a crude edit would be defamation. Especially since they were all words that actually came out of his mouth in the order they came out.

What happened in Australia is horrific. The gunmen and any that helped them are the only people who chose to do this and can never face sufficient justice, to make this right.

It’s Taylor Swifts birthday today, so here is something I’ve been thinking for a while. Being is a Swiftie is not contingent on liking her music. As far as I’m concerned being a Swiftie is just about respecting her as a person and her actions.

The lesson is just stand up to bigots. You wanna win some capital. Try saying “no, fuck you and your bigotry” say it loud and publicly.
The president of the USA is a racist narcissist as well )as a criminal and a rapist) his friendship is not worth winning.

In other cheery news another British PM thinks you can pander to the far-right by destroying whichever institution is now supposedly ‘the problem’ instead of realising they’ll just move on to the next one once you do this and you’ll win exactly 0 political capital.

So let’s get this right, at the last World Cup the visiting nations had to “respect the culture” of the host nation by being hostile to LGBTQ+ people, but this time it’s the host nation that has to “respect the culture” of the visiting nations by pretending LGBTQ+ people don’t exist?
December 10, 2025 at 8:02 AM
So I avoided the whole of the last World Cup because of human rights violations by the host, so by the same logic I think I will have to avoid this one as well.

The only principled stance is to punish Russia into retreat: militarily, economically, diplomatically. Let the future imperialists see what becomes of invaders.

Real issues:
1)Brexit took 4% out of the economy, imports and exports down 15% compared with remaining in.
2)Lower net migration has caused UK productivity to drop.
3)Billions handed out in Covid contracts to Tory mates.

Europe MUST give Zelensky cover to turn down this absurd capitulation plan proposed by Trump, an alternative needs to be made loud and public and a clear rejection of Putin plan.

Government “terrorism shouldnt change our way of lives”
Also Government “terrorism against the Jewish faith means we should no longer march in support of a country facing genocide by the Israeli government”

What brings more terrorism Mr Netanyahu is murdering women and children and displacing an entire people without care or concern in a totally unbalanced response to a previous act of terror. The Israeli government is now the single biggest recruiting tool for Anti-Semites of every type.

You know how George W Bush now looks really old and hasn’t been president for nearly 17 years….

… he’s 1 month younger than the current president who still has more than 3 years in office…

NATO and the EU can’t constantly be displeased and have urgent meetings they have to issue Putin an ultimatum, and his breach of those conditions must result in punitive (probably military) action.
