Genuinely the first time I feel like the manga has taken any time to spend any time with what's going on politically is when the Earth Sphere Unified Nation is declared and White Fang emerges.

Yeah they are more or less recolored Brownshirt uniforms

Uh, you should take another look at those uniforms because it's so much worse than that

Maybe he was doing that performativeness I've heard so much about

Oh my god

Well, the Tallgeese (and all the other OZ suits) were always Katoki's designs anyway.

Oh hell yes

Am I wrong, or did Gundam Wing TV make an attempt to show more of the political intrigue that informs the various conflicts? Glory of Losers feels like most of that is stripped away in service of getting to the next battle quicker. The actual stakes are so much more vague than I remember in the show

Big fan of how the Marchosias has a bunch

The annoying thing about finally reading Glory of the Losers is I finally get to see the Tallgeese Flugel do its thing and now I want a kit of it. The wings suit the Tallgeese so much better; making it the origin of the EW Wing Zero's wings is honestly a pretty good way to establish them.

What can I say, I'm a big fan of sub-arms

What's funny is that superficially Endless Waltz and Hathaway's Flash ought to have themes of political violence and terrorism in response to oppression in common, but of the two Hathaway is the only one with any kind of real point of view on the matter

Doing Endless Waltz and Hathaway as a double feature is wild, seeing them together really shows that these are opposite movies
Coming off Japan Society screening of Endless Waltz, the funniest thing about Gundam Wing is how bereft of ideology it can be. People are literally fighting about the idea of fighting.

Gundam Wing is ultimately just a melodramatic fairytale with very little of substance to say. That can be a lot of fun but it's wild how it manages to sustain itself on so little
January 13, 2026 at 4:37 AM
It's still so funny that the main thing that compels people to fight and struggle in Gundam Wing is just about the idea of fighting itself. Not even necessarily for or against something, any cause may as well be arbitrary beyond "Fighting good! Fighting bad!"
