First of all, this guy's Autism does not provide

'"some explanation for the offending" due to his reduced ability to pick up on social cues.'

That's not what Autism is.

That's not what Autism does.

Justice Mossop needs a mandatory course in the difference between Autism and plain old misogyny.

Me: "🌧 HE WAS TRYING SO HARD TO BE A GOOD DAD HE JUST DIDN'T KNOW HOW 🌧"

Someone's kid: "Yeah, it was really funny"

My summer of 2018.

I was being weened off a strong medication with a side-effect of having intense emotional reactions to things and I was also running a summer reading programme, and kids were coming to tell me about how the horse in their book dies at the end or whatever and i was just "OMG 🌧 THAT THAT POOR HORSE"

Not unique to us, but 'quay'.

Books.

(It's not Wardini's, just to be clear!)

… members should follow the western dress code in the House this is NEW ZEALAND we don't dress like 'jahardis', Brownie isn't being hard enough the speaker needs to treat these people like children…

I really hope these aren't mainstream views

So i just popped into one of my (formerly) favourite shops, where the employees were LOUDLY discussing how Benjamin Doyle should be in prison (for their leaving speech?), the police should be talking to 'that woman' (Swarbrick) about Peter's house, TPM have lost the plot...

This is so true. I have a work task that involves long periods of waiting in a data black zone, and I have been slowly getting through a bunch of non-fiction.

I think part of it (for me) is that nonfiction requires me to stop and think about a new idea, and I normally don't give myself the time.

People say they wanna talk singer songwriters and then don’t bring up Mariah Carey and i think that says something about our society

Teen: "Someone in THIS HOUSE has been POSSESSED BY AN OWL"
Child: "Who?"
Child:
Child *furious*

Forget vapes, boy's body spray is what we need to ban

(For his birthday we went to the cemetery after dark and he explored it with a lantern, which apparently is the proper way to explore a benighted cemetary)

He looked all around the place, used his ghost kit, and told me the stories he'd read about it.

And when he was finished, we went down to the public bar and had a drink.
tombagatelle.bsky.social
So I took him there and he went up to the receptionist, explained about ghost hunting, and asked if he could look for ghosts. And, maybe because it was a quiet day, she said yes, so long as he stuck to the hallways. And he did!

Okay, so when my teen was ~9yo he was really into ghosts and ghost hunting. He made a whole ghost hunting kit for himself. And then he looked up haunted buildings in our town — the most haunted was the Massonic Hotel so he asked if he could visit it.

THIS IS THE THING.

People who love to read are often too exhausted--by labor, by far of homelessness, of political violence, of the fucking *future*--to read for pleasure, and even escapist reading can succumb to those pressures ::raises both hands frantically:: ASK ME HOW I KNOW.
adapalmer.bsky.social
I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Whether against Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke, Ghahraman, Ardern, other MPs, Wiles, Bloomfield, & others involved in pandemic response, transgender activists, drag queens, judges, lawyers or academics - effects of doxxing are inherently harmful, & often leads to kinetic violence or vandalism.

Remember a few years back when an angry mob camped outside parliament, harrassed school children, shat everywhere, set the playground on fire and put up a noose to hang members of the government with?

I, a not-fun person: I think they're divided on issues like women's subservience and how they shouldn't be allowed to hold places in the church, homophobia, and gender essentialism, so kinda evil

There’s nothing like seeing a distant kangaroo in the mist to make me feel the age of the landscape.
A very large kangaroo bounds across a grassy plain. Barely visible due to morning mist.

#nzpol Sometimes a policy is so stupid it makes you question the very fabric of reality. Decisions so fabulously, almost wantonly dumb, you wonder if we actually live in a simulation. Welcome to the world of removing Jobseeker Support for 18 & 19-year-olds. craigrenney.substack.com/p/a-small-wr...
A small wrinkle in the Jobseeker policy
The government’s recent changes to benefits feel like this: the house is on fire, and this policy is them turning off the smoke alarm and saying it’s fixed
