I am so tired of the word “crackdown” to describe what ICE and the national guard are doing. A crackdown, even if neutral about the manner in which it’s done, implies there’s something to “crack down” on. There isn’t!!!

I feel like Kavi’s point was true until Anne Hidalgo, now it’s almost flipped and I hear way more about Paris and Nordic cities than Amsterdam. I think Amsterdam urbanism stuff is more well known among the general public though, so it’s still media’s go-to, etc.

People quoting this with “we have this now!” are technically correct, but to my recollection it wasn’t a pseudo-partisan political thing in the 90s like it is now. I grew up in a super Republican area and everything we read/watched in school was overtly pro-diversity. Impossible to imagine now.
