AFAIK, in 200 years, only 3 times did a country elect someone who had attempted a coup:
- Louis Napoleon (France, 1848)
- Adolf Hitler (Germany, 1933)
- Hugo Chavez (Venezuela, 1998)
Each one became dictator. I think we will be the first exception, but it's not something you screw around with.

The American people electing Trump after he staged a coup attempt 5 years ago was a nail in the coffin of our democracy. You can rationalize it all you want - But inflation! But wokeness! - but ultimately it was a societal suicide attempt and probably the dumbest collective voting decision ever made

It was quiet the scene at Doral yesterday, as I spent the day walking the Trump's sprawling resort. I had a chance to chat with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the governor of the $925 billion Saudi sovereign wealth fund. He is also chairman of LIV Golf and close to Trump.

"This is a temporary setback. Sit tight and things are going to go back up, trust me" is the age-old shtick of swindlers, charlatans, and quacks. You lose a year (or five or ten) and possibly a ton of money, and then the scammer is gone, maybe to jail, maybe dead, and you're screwed.
