New Research Thread🧵:
We examine the spatial patterns and eviction rates of single-family landlords in the Twin Cities. We find Private Equity firms and REITs each have their own distinct geographies and evict tenants at higher rates than smaller landlords. 1/

Utterly wild that we have an obsequious tribunal that can, by fiat, decide what goes on our ballot.

if blue state governors and mayors aren't already thinking about the reliability of various police forces nominally under their control, they should start immediately

This South Side Weekly report on the Chicago building raid is well worth reading. Most striking to me are the indications of collusion between federal authorities and the building owner and management to effect a mass eviction at the blighted property. southsideweekly.com/federal-agen...

Tonight a resident posted a picture of racist and Islamaphobic language written on Johnson street that called for @omarfatehmn.com to be deported and wished death upon the Somali community. @doronclark.bsky.social and I showed up right away to get this racist garbage off of our streets

This bubble popping will be verystrange, I don't claim to know what's going to happen, but ironically a slow down of data center construction coupled with these corps running out of cash would end up mirroring 2008 in a lot of ways. Instead of empty condos we get a bunch of half-built data centers.

Will Minneapolis Mayoral candidates commit to doing this if this were to happen here? Is there any planning or coordination happening here in MN?? It's just a matter of time before they try to occupy us.

HAPPENING NOW — This morning, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order establishing “ICE-free zones.”

“That means that city property and unwilling private businesses will no longer serve as grounds for these raids,” Johnson said to applause.

this isn't possible i'm sorry! A gigawatt of data center development is currently taking about 2.5 years (see: abilene) and that's with established partners and chips that have actually launched (the mi450 hasn't). Do they even have the land?

Insight brought to you by Peter Brown, a super smart guy who wrote a whole book on how developers think. Certainly not relevant at all right now with the AI economy... (3/3)

Developers realized the market was softening and the goal was to complete your building before the other guys and lease up/sell your units before the bottom dropped out. Incidently, usally the tallest building is the last one finished right before the crash. (2/3)

One big turning point in bubble markets is when actors begin to realize they are in a bubble, but don't really change their behavior as opposed to accelerate their efforts to beat the popping. The 2008 condo bubble is a perfect example. (1/3)

alec karakatsanis talked about how police make it easy for media to cover crime by providing so much info, leading to other crime not getting covered. “stick a reporter in housing court,” he suggests covering bad landlords. i just think of john wall’s residency faking going unreported here!
