She was arrested for holding a sign reading:

“I do not support the proscription of Palestine Action”

How that would warrant arrest is very unclear. I wonder if the police here even understand the boundaries of the bizarre law they’ve been forced to enforce.

Good fucking morning to everyone—except the ICE agents in Chicago making false 911 calls to get local cops to harass peaceful protestors and journalists. What the hell are you doing? There are real emergencies in and around Chicago that actually need police attention. Stop wasting their time.

The very first statute authorizing domestic use of the military during domestic emergencies, enacted in 1792 by a Congress full of the same folks who wrote and ratified the Constitution, expressly provided for judicial review in certain circumstances *before* the President could even send troops.

It breaks my mind that two British political parties have seen scenes like this and decided to try and replicate it in Britain. Thuggary, lawlessness, state brutality. Farage and Badenoch decided they liked the look of it.

If U.S. states have any degree of sovereignty, if there’s any states’ rights at all, it is the right not to be invaded by the armed forces of another U.S. state.

Rereading Alan Bennett’s diaries. Every entry a gem, like these few lines about Cecil Beaton’s 1980 death & AB’s phrase “The toughness of the dandy”. Being a dandy has so often been seen as a weakness,an affectation, a selfish & manipulative indulgence. But by gawd you do have to be tough to be one.

I just drew this to try to show what I think I'm seeing.

It's similar to what I saw happen to trans people.

Bad actors amplify extremists and make sure that opposing extremists are what you see.

This sets up everyone for conflict, not dialogue and understanding, should reasonable people meet.
Critize Israel's Genocide
Get called an antisemite.

>

Weaponized accusations
Israel and its allies run a deliberate campaign to link Jewish people and Israel, and to dismiss any criticism of Israel as antisemitism.

>

Genuine Antisemites
See the opportunity to attack Jews under the cover of the widespread outrage about Israel.

>

Jews see attacks from antisemites
Jews are told that all protests against the genocide are antisemitic by highlighting of specific incidents.

>

Jews feel threatened
Jewish communities post about the antisemitic attacks they are seeing.
People who have been called antisemitic just for opposing the genocide feel attacked by those posts.

I went to a synagogue that was very close to this synagogue. I went to school close to this synagogue. So this is both personal for me and is political,” Polanski told Sky News.

He said the only authentic response was unity. “Actually the only authentic response is solidarity. We need community cohesion and we need people to stick together.”

Polanski criticised Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch for linking language around Gaza to rising antisemitism. “No, I think Kemi Badenoch was deeply irresponsible there. We [can't] conflate the Jewish community and the ongoing genocide in Gaza and actually putting those two things together, I say personally as a Jewish person, makes me feel more at risk.”

He also hit out at Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, who described protests calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza as “fundamentally un-British”.

“No, I think Shabana Mahmood is also being deeply irresponsible. Conflating protests against a genocide in Gaza and ultimately weaponising that against an antisemitic attack on our streets … is incoherent and it’s exactly the opposite of what we need from politicians,” said Polanski.

Polanski stressed that the two issues must not be conflated. “If someone is trying to weaponize the attack that happened yesterday to try and silence protest in this country against the genocide again. They're separate issues. Of course, we should always look to be respectful, but we also need to be clear what this government is doing. They are selling arms to Israel. They're sharing intelligence for an ongoing genocide.”

He added that while sensitivity to grieving communities was essential, it should not mean silence over Gaza. “Of course, I would make a call to everyone to be sensitive to the Jewish community to recognize what's happening, but again, speaking as a member of the Jewish community. I wouldn't want anyone to feel like they had to be silent about a genocide that's happening.”

Polanski accused the government of deflecting attention from its role in Gaza. “I’m less concerned about the policing of language and civility, and I’m more concerned about the actual bombs that are landing on people.”

Britain's leader of the Green Party, Zack Polanski, attends a demonstration outside Downing Street gates, on September 9, 2025, to oppose the presence of the Israeli President Isaac Herzog (AFP)

What has Yvette Cooper’s proscription of Palestine Action done to this country?

Beyond absurd. It’s extreme authoritarianism. These police should be arresting rapists & crooks, not neglecting those duties to spend time arresting citizens standing against genocide.

It undermines police and the law.
