Base coat laid down for the rear thruster parts.

There’s actually less parts involved in this than I thought at first, though there’s a bunch of clear parts to add, and almost all of these parts are insanely detailed, so the hand paint is gonna take a while.

Not a bad thing :)

I scroll through manual scans on Dalong like I’m reading the manual for a game on the drive back home

And of course, some of the parts got the fluorescent treatment for a little accent and glow!

Here’s some pics of the big thrusters on their separate parts to show a bit more of the detail and molding in it, some of it peaks through the armor when assembled but now you can see it fully exposed in all its glory :)

I think I already shared these WIP pics but didn’t link the threads together so forgive a little duplication. This is the core part of it where it connects up to the body.

I love the G-Self! It’s such an awesome design and feels like a far future evolution of the Gundam.

They’re awesome from a technical and engineering perspective. It’s just a shame they don’t quite work the way we want them to.

Big thing is since they’re enamels they need much longer drying time, so just be a little careful with them. I’m talking like 48-72 hours if you really wanna be sure, and I generally recommend a top coat before any handling anyway.

They look amazing but you gotta treat ‘em right.

Yep! Alclad’s paints are all enamel based paints (annoyingly “Aclad II Lacquers” is the brand name, not an accurate paint descriptor) so lighter fluid or other mineral spirits work great on it!

And of course I used some fluorescent paint. Come on, it’s me!

I used some wash over part of what kinda looks like the fuel tank? But either way I like the way it turned out, giving that part a little bit of extra look but still helping the “clean” parts pop.

I haven’t gone too crazy with a wash, but used it a few places and it adds nice subtle details

Front part is built, ran out of time to get the clear armor on - but the bare frame is where all the cool stuff is anyway :) I’ll have some pics tomorrow with the full clear armor on this front segment

Looks fantastic!

Sponge painted, so closer to hand painting. You dab the paint (water based acrylics) on using a make up applicator sponge in a few layers.

It’s easy to do, doesn’t need any special equipment, and can give a really nice finish comparable to airbrushing in some cases, depending on the paint and piece

Yeah, Stedi definitely needs a longer try time than stuff like Tamiya or other more solvent based liners.

These two go together and they have a few others that pair up - Siren and Harpy can share some parts for a combined mode, at the least. I think some others might, but I’m not sure.

Not the best pic (it’s from a year or two back before I tried getting better at my photos) but I’ve got them posed together in their combined attack position :)

Maybe we’ll finally get this ending after the new movie…?

For some reason I can’t help but imagine this scenario as exactly the same as the original story except Gundaella is literally a full sized Gundam - the wicked stepmother and stepsisters bullying an 18m tall war machine and no one acknowledges it.
