Base coat laid down for the rear thruster parts.

There’s actually less parts involved in this than I thought at first, though there’s a bunch of clear parts to add, and almost all of these parts are insanely detailed, so the hand paint is gonna take a while.

Not a bad thing :)

And of course, some of the parts got the fluorescent treatment for a little accent and glow!

Here’s some pics of the big thrusters on their separate parts to show a bit more of the detail and molding in it, some of it peaks through the armor when assembled but now you can see it fully exposed in all its glory :)

I think I already shared these WIP pics but didn’t link the threads together so forgive a little duplication. This is the core part of it where it connects up to the body.

After a few days of painting, drying, details, and assembly, I’ve got the first part of the lower body done! The RG Zeong had so much amazing detail and piping molded here that just shines with some paint, and shows through the clear armor beautifully!

Found a Hemoxian Lily on Ali with a coupon and a 20% cashback on PayPal, so nabbed her for about $50 all said - really good price and now I’m not waiting in the time abyss of BigBadToyStore preorder hell :P

And of course I used some fluorescent paint. Come on, it’s me!

I used some wash over part of what kinda looks like the fuel tank? But either way I like the way it turned out, giving that part a little bit of extra look but still helping the “clean” parts pop.

I haven’t gone too crazy with a wash, but used it a few places and it adds nice subtle details

Front part is built, ran out of time to get the clear armor on - but the bare frame is where all the cool stuff is anyway :) I’ll have some pics tomorrow with the full clear armor on this front segment

Next round of Zeong parts got their base coat put down. I’m not wearing them in the pics but I’m glad I picked up some nitrile gloves because these are getting messy from the odd shapes.

Included a snap of the paints I used here, too!

Not the best pic (it’s from a year or two back before I tried getting better at my photos) but I’ve got them posed together in their combined attack position :)

Not quite sure how much you'd be able to see once I get the arms done, but you can see inside of the arm housings to the extra details deep in the inner frame parts that usually are covered. I love they gave enough of a gap and opening in here to peak in there if you extend the arms just right.
November 28, 2025 at 10:01 AM
The armor is really clear, though the dark blue is just dark enough to hide more of the details than I might like, but you can still see just enough of them poking through gaps or still showing through that it doesn't diminish the effect.

Also forgot how cool the extending thruster effect is.

Really proud of how the RG Zeong is turning out. The inner frame has so many amazing small details to add onto, and getting to see them through the armor really is justifying how much I've wanted this kit for a while now.

The only complaints I ever have about these is how fast I finish them - it’s so easy to sink in and listen and just binge in a few sessions while building or at a slow night at work.

Brilliant work as always @travisbaldree.bsky.social ! Everyone read (or listen, he does the voices) these books!

Partway through the chest frame. Next is going to be the arm mounting assemblies and thrusters that go on the chest, but this is the core of the chest.

I really like it so far - and like I said, the armor is more than clear enough to see the inner details, exactly like I hoped.
November 27, 2025 at 11:09 AM
I took some pics of the chest frame pieces I got done today before full assembly - but as you’ll see if you scroll down one more post, you can see a great deal of the detail through the armor.

But a look at even some pieces that are gonna be hidden inside the frame. I’ll now they’re there!

Couldn’t sleep so went down and sponged on the base coat for parts of Zeong’s chest frame, and resisting the urge and giving it until tonight to properly dry before I start adding details

Using Army Painter Fanatic Gunmeral, Vallejo Model Color Brass, and Vallejo Natural Steel for the base coats

Oh, I thought you guys and gals and others might find this interesting to check out - I’m starting some design plans for my #GBWC entry for next year!

It’s a bit of a mess and subject to change, but it’s got some of my thought process in it!

It’s not quite as easy to see a lot of the detail put into it, especially on a picture, due to the head having a lot of layering. The body will definitely show it off more - but I’m glad it’s there.

And yes of course I used some fluorescent paints :P

Time for probably a more long haul project - doing a ton of hand painting inner frame details on the Gundam Base Clear RG Zeong

Got the head done over the last two days, trying to be patient and let paint dry

The armor plates can fold Seward at a joint where I circled in red, up to around 90 degrees give or take, maybe a bit more. It doesn’t quite fully clear the shoulders but should give you some room to move her arms.

Overall this was really fun! I fell in love with this design when it was announced and while a simpler build than I expected (maybe coulda been a bit cheaper than it was) the end result with even minimal detailing looks amazing, with a lot of cool posing options. Definitely worth the build!

It's not the most obvious, but one cool accent I decided to do was use fluorescent green paint for the panel lines on the armor. You can kinda see it (it's not super vibrant when it's dried), but it glows beautifully under UV light! And as a nice bonus, the green plastic included fluoresces too!
