After a few days of painting, drying, details, and assembly, I’ve got the first part of the lower body done! The RG Zeong had so much amazing detail and piping molded here that just shines with some paint, and shows through the clear armor beautifully!

Next round of Zeong parts got their base coat put down. I’m not wearing them in the pics but I’m glad I picked up some nitrile gloves because these are getting messy from the odd shapes.

RX-78-2 GUNDAM: NOW AND THEN

I really love the classic look of the Gundam, so I wanted to understand all its differences compared to the modern interpretation of the RX-78-2. And there's no better way to learn something well than to teach others!

NOSE - While the original design of the head is variable in its design (especially around the faceplate, which could either have a flat top or a jagged top), a good amount of the illustrations show that the red section under the eyes was intended to be in the shape of a nose and upper cheeks. This is similar to other giant robots of the era, like Mazinger Z or Zambot 3. VENTS - Some depictions of the RX-78-2 have extruded yellow frames around the chest vents instead of vents directly inset in the chest. While this is a design trait that the later RX-178 Gundam Mk-II has featured since its first appearance, the RX-78-2 wouldn't be depicted with them until its first Master Grade model kit in 1995. Now, this look is part of the variable design "canon", and appears on some iterations of the RX-78-2 like the Ver. Ka or the Gundam: The Origin design. YELLOW V-FIN/ANTENNA - The RX-78-2 is occasionally depicted with the crest on its head in yellow instead of white, especially in early merchandise of the show. This may have been because early giant robot toys used softer, rubbery material for pointy design elements, and that material only came in a yellow color. On the RX-78-2, this yellow coloration is also used in the Gundam: The Origin manga, alongside a green camera at the top of the head and eyes that often glow pink. (alt text continued in next post)

Really proud of how the RG Zeong is turning out. The inner frame has so many amazing small details to add onto, and getting to see them through the armor really is justifying how much I've wanted this kit for a while now.

The only complaints I ever have about these is how fast I finish them - it’s so easy to sink in and listen and just binge in a few sessions while building or at a slow night at work.

"Project Raptor," as the name implies, is inspired by birds of prey, hunting birds of the real world like falcons, eagles, etc. As such the main design philosophy here was inspired by an "avian" look - wings, clawed feet, and somewhat slender proportions for the chest into the waist. The arms look a little clumsy on this design layout, but the forearms will be detached in "battle" so the large size of the hands won't be as immediately obvious. The shoulders are also still up in the air, I might try to work in a different kit's shoulders with a bit less of a sharp angle, or omit them altogether and just have the upper arms as is. We'll see. The head is also something I'm still debating on. I like the Baund Doc's very "avian" look with almost a beak to it, but not sure if it'll fit right - I might wind up scratch building or adding on additional armor or effects to it from the other kits. I'll probably add in some metallic reds and golds as well, borrowing from some birds like the Red-Tailed Hawk or Peregrine Falcon, so it won't be wholly based off a single species of bird, but more using that as a guiding idea without being completely constrained by it. It will evoke that imagery and feeling but still be able to be part of a balanced visual look for a mobile suit. Red-Tailed Hawk Peregrine Falcon In keeping with the avian theme of Project Raptor, the "enemy" it will be fighting/hunting is meant to appear like a fish or other aquatic creature. Rather than simply go with an aquatic bipedal suit like a Z'Gok, I was inspired largely by BuilderPan's entry to try to make a more "animal" looking opponent. It will likely be partially submerged/emerging from some kind of (resin?) water/river with Project Raptor diving to attack it, but will be in a more dynamic pose than just this overhead straight position. Head: MG Wing Zero Ver Ka shield with rifles (no good images from the angle I wanted with the rifles, pretend the rectangles are them) "Fins": MG Freedom 2.0 wings Chest: RG Zeong Legs: MG Freedom 2.0, possibly alongside MG Wing Zero Ver Ka legs to balance it out, specifics will kinda need to be built to really figure out, this will hopefully look more filled out than it does - might even cut off at the knees or partial through calves Bottom Thrusters: RG Zeong

A big girl with big... cannons, #MegamiDevice Buster Doll Tank is all built and ready. I do love the design this one has, and the dark grey (semi-matte out of box) pairs with the bright (fluorescent!) green plastic really well - it's a great color scheme!

Forgot to take some more pics but I’ll probably have Buster Doll Tank wrapped up tomorrow. The build is actually more simple for the armor than expected. Still looks good but it’s relatively few pieces, so it’s going quick - mostly waiting for the fluorescent accents to dry properly. #girlpla

Buster Doll Tank is built up in three main phases, and I finished the third one - a more mid-armor style. Rather than having all her gear, or full “civilian” gear, this is a nice little middle ground.

Saw Angel’s Egg with my wife last night… what an absolute trip of a movie. Beautiful and haunting but man I had to spend like an hour after reading analysis to see what actually happened.

I knew Mamoru Oshii was artsy from other movies, but this was something else.
