I love that Mamdani is what the right claimed Obama was: A Muslim socialist born in Africa. The right practically manifested Mamdani into existence.

The tallest tree in Wales got damaged by a storm and was supposed to be cut down, instead chainsaw artist Simon O'Rourke found a better solution to symbolise the tree's last attempt to reach the sky.

I also plugged the pattern's into a trial version of Vcarve so I could see what the patterns would look like if they where carved by a soulless machine, lol. *sign. I kinda wish I could carve like a soulless machine.

Finally got around to finishing the patterns I'll be carving into the blanks I made a few months ago. I've only been working on these on and off. Between the holidays, an injury, and frankly, procrastination this took me allot longer than it should have. See bellow for more details.

Don’t lose hope. Remember, Watergate took over two years to fully unravel from the initial break-in to Nixon’s resignation. Just like then and now, Americans are losing faith in their government. We are documenting every illegal action and will hold this administration and Elon Musk accountable.

I've been pretty busy lately so I just got back to work on patterns for the medallions. Most of the patterns I plan to do are pretty simple, but I came across a dual raven pattern I'd started sometime ago so I decided to try to simplify and polish the design a bit.

The third night took me about an hour to finish sanding them down to thickness. Now I just need to work out the patterns I'm gonna use and start carving.

By the end of the second night I'd cut all 16 medallions down to as close to a quarter inch as I was comfortable getting on the band saw. Took me about 5 hrs including the time it took me to finish rounding them.

Used a quarter inch template to mark the edge so I didn't overshoot the thickness. Then used a clamp I made to make it easier to handle wood slices to cut the thickness down on the band saw.

The second night I finished rounding them, but I cut the initial slices too thick so I was gonna need to cut them down before I could finish shaping them.

Drew circles for guidance and started belt/disc sanding the basic shape. The goal here are medallions as close to a perfect circle as possible and about 1/4 inch thick. I also wanted to get the core of the wood as close to the center as I could without sacrificing too much of the diameter.

Wood slices I had cut from a small water oak I cut down and let cure some time ago. Assuming I don't screw any of them up I'm going to make 16 necklaces from these.

This is a necklace I made a couple years ago. Thinking of selling these so I wanted to develop the techniques and make sure the carving and cord would hold up to wear. I recently started making a series of these. I'm going to post progress pics to show how they were made.
