@nworbmot.bsky.social is doing really important stuff again, simulating how methanol (instead of hydrogen) could be the fuel to power a system otherwise mainly running on solar, wind and batteries. SUPER interesting paper.

If our country survives this crisis, I hope the experience will show Americans 2 important things:

1. That government is a necessary good--not the evil that Ronald Reagan warned us about. Air traffic control & food safety inspections are great, actually.

2. We have to enforce the laws on rich ppl.

While Musk & Co execute their administrative coup, Trump is busy working through the "To Do" list Putin gave him.

He just whipped out his favorite Sharpie and put a big check mark next to "disband task force investigating Russian oligarchs."

This is what happens when a bunch of guys who hold history & social science in contempt are able to accumulate unlimited wealth & power.
Total ignorance, total absence of curiosity about why government exists & what problems it was designed to solve.
The broligarchs are world historically dangerous.
“Regulations, basically, should be default gone,” Musk said. “Not default there, default gone. And if it turns out that we missed the mark on a regulation, we can always add it back in.”

Trump believes that the one with the most aircraft carriers wins a trade war – he does not.
The countries that the US threatens with tariffs do not see what is happening as a trade war. It is about national security, so no one can allow Trump to win.

Listen, Broligarchy is not some cute synonym for oligarchy. It's genuinely different & WAY more dangerous.

I'm a sociologist who's been studying the ultra-rich globally for 17 yrs, entering their world as an offshore wealth mgr. Published 2 books abt them.

🧵Broligarchs are distinct in 3 ways:
There’s a sort of Trump apologist, a relatively small but loud subset, who probably don’t realize or intend to be, but are so attached to a previous hyperbolic claim that they deny anything important changed.

-US was already an oligarchy
-US was already fascist
-Biden gave Israel a blank check

A burning platform. That is arguably the case for German industry, moving away from gas.
The case for hydrogen as a direct replacement for gas. has long seemed implausible to me. Much in line with these German research findings.
Today's #HydrogenSoufflé is brought to you by #Germany: "Importing green hydrogen via ships is not a viable strategy for the decarbonisation of Germany’s steel and chemical industries, government-funded Ariadne energy transition research alliance has warned."
