But, nobody is going to say "no sir" if silence is a safe option because there are no meaningful consequences for keeping your head down and "just following orders".

This incident (as reported) is so blatantly a war crime that it should be easy, it's just a question of the appitite to prosecute.

If we want this behavior to actually stop, we need to give the soldiers/sailors/marines on the ground/water a reason to consider the legality of the orders they are given.

We need to give their officers the same, so they try to protect those under their command. Someone must say "no sir".

Hegseth gave the illegal order. He's a war criminal and should be prosecuted.

However, every officer and soldier who participated, including the Admiral, violated their oath by accepting the illegal order. It is absolutely not wrong to go after the Admiral or the pilot who was controlling the drone

Makes me think that he knows what people who are actually punished for war crimes look like, too.

How does "we are dependent on an OS image created by a mostly trusted third party, who at any moment can decide to stop supporting a somewhat trusted fourth party" pass any meaningful security or other audit?

It's just nuts what passes for acceptable today.

and it leads to a view that looks like this:

If we jailed one or two of the lower level soldiers who followed the orders, it might make it less likely that other troops would follow future illegal orders. Might.

But they are the only ones who might face any consequences. Elites in power will never punish their own.

Acela Quiet Car for me, please, unless it's late at night and I can play spades in the club car with a bunch of drunks.

Some real ones also remember the disaster that was the Trump Shuttle airline. One of many previous money-losing businesses emblazoned with that despicable moniker.

Well, really it's arguably only a $4 ticket. The usual "day permit" for the lot is $6. I could avoid the ticket for $6, or pay $10 on the (rare) occasions that I get caught.

This does not encourage me to purchase the permit more frequently.
