ICYMI, new story this week! Last of the year (probably). Features a hot shot pilot, a retired but persistent ambulance, and snacks.

Out today, in the autumn issue of @kaleidotrope.bsky.social, my story of a space pilot dealing with her first clone resurrection, with a little help from the rescue ship's AI and several kinds of cheese.

A landmark day in railway history… on 27 September 1825 George Stephenson’s ‘Locomotion No.1’ took a 26-mile journey along the Stockton and Darlington Railway: the world’s first public steam-powered passenger service...

I went to the dentists today, and have just eaten some salted caramel Lindt dark chocolate. As a reward for my teeth.

It reminded me more of Up, because they never went anywhere (except that one time).

I prefer people's faces to be smaller than my thumb nail. So I can barely tell it's a face. Or not a face at all. Attached to words.

I use an Anker pair of earbuds which also have ANC, and they've lasted me a few years so far. I forget they're in quite frequently. They are great, except for when sleeping (I have some Sony wireless earphones).

One great point after another in this essay:
"...the bioessentialist ick. SNW abandons the lessons these species’ episodes are meant to teach us as viewers in favor of aping those species’ bare images to sell fans back the same thing they’ve always loved"

Strange New Worlds has been celebrated for updating the progressive framework of Star Trek's universe. But in its rendering of the Vulcans and Gorn, the series shows a startling propensity toward bioessentialism that even The Original Series never stooped to

Vulcans are logic machines, Gorn are monsters... or so Strange New Worlds might have us believe.

What MRM has put P.A. through is absurd. There are terrific editorial teams working at the three big print SFF mags, but as long as the publisher finds it reasonable to treat authors this way, I won't be submitting to any of the publications they own.

I am a dedicated watcher of opening credits. On this occasion I skipped them.

People pretending to be Vulcans makes me deeply uncomfortable and focussing on just the vocal aspect made it worse.
