Yeah I mean this is part of it right - people often say that it's because retail premises are too expensive etc but that's also the market

Genuinely these people have absolutely no idea how the economic system they live in and probably support is supposed to work. So much "*they* took our high street shops away!" Who did? Who took them? The invisible hand of the market, that's who.

realise how bad our legal position and the behaviour of this govt really is. I don't even think it's a reaction to Reform because they're not really any different on trans folk - in fact their prisons spokesperson said they would put some trans women in women's prisons!

Yeah you're not wrong - basically their direction of travel is faster and more dangerous, and the federal govts intent is very clear. Some states are standing up for trans people and that's the only saving grace. I would rather be here than there at the moment, but I do think it's important people..

...rape in the entire country. They have this in very few states. We're basically a global outlier with very few countries worse

...current reading of the EA2010 post UKSC this year. They have overall bathroom bans in very few states but we're closer to that than they are on average. They still have trans women in women's prisons and sports in many states, and as things stand our CPS treat non-disclosure of trans status as..

A lot of complexity and obvs some US states are much worse than UK, some are better. In general their access to healthcare is better (informed consent in places), access to gender recognition is easier in many states although it's regressed, and very few states have a law as egregious as the...

Yeah the UK has more transphobic laws at a national level than the US does in almost every way.

If you drive professionally then you should be held to a higher standard, not lower! Even if you don't drive professionally, if you do something egregious like this that should be it! It's not like driving is some core human rights that cannot be taken away

If you're a vet & you mistreat an animal in your private life, you'll be treated MORE harshly than if you're a regular person. Yet if you need to drive for your job and get caught speeding in your private car, you seem to be able to argue a ban will disproportionately affect your job. That is worse!

The person they're providing a counterpoint to posted positively about Sonia Sodha, so that reveals a certain level of bias as to why they'd want us all back on Twitter

Yeah like round where I live you see people in actually dirty mitsubishi shoguns or whatever and you know they're actually using it. I still do not need to see these 2.5 ton RWD SUVs anything like as much as I do though!

One other thing, I'm just going to say it - there's a certain category of extremely online city dweller who seem to genuinely think not having a car is completely achievable for almost everyone and they're living on a complete other planet to most of us, unfortunately.

I think we should be taking significant measures to completely discourage driving in cities where there's decent public transport alternatives. Tax the shit out of people driving where there's a public transport alternative. The problem arises in non-urban areas where there's often no alternative
