Never thought of it this way, but of course free trade changed what produce is available in Canada. We had oranges and grapefruit when I was a kid, but not avocados either. I recall encountering my first mango, in university, and trying to pop it off the pit like a big peach.
I remember the first time I had avocado and I was 17 or so and it was in my aunt's salad and I was like ..... what on earth is this?!
MFer I grew up before NAFTA. I didn't have an avocado until I was 15 years old. I ate lunch in a Zellers cafeteria. I thought Robin Hood was just a guy who made flour.

In the absence of family traditions for Imbolc / Bridgid's day / halfway between midwinter and the spring equinox, we did some spring cleaning. Spring feels far away in today's -20 snow, but brighter days, at least, are coming.
