Oh hey another social media site. What is this, 2005?

Alexandria, VA resident. Quickly becoming radicalized on local politics by Blue Sky. Shitposts are my own.
Bad decisions.

I misread this as hot dogs and I’m in favor of that one.

Oh I literally have worked in tech since 1996 if you count highschool and college co-op jobs and specifically have been in the data space for almost a decade.

I will die on the hill of "GenAI is a bad idea".

Ha yeah, after four years at Michigan Tech, I opted to come here over the other job offer in Chicago on account of I didn't want more.

I also got lucky because that other offer didn't go well during the dotcom crash.

Respect. A few of us spent the night in my sister in law's office because she worked at a non profit a block from the route. We got there at like 8 am and sat there the whole time in front of the old Elephant and Castle (I think that's long gone).

At least it was sunny. I can't imagine shade

This possibly coincides with some combination of "all this", getting more and more worldly as I moved out of various bubbles, and my political leanings going the opposite of that apocryphal Churchill quote from highschool to now.

I'm the Benjamin Button of middle aged cishet white guy thoughts.

Coldest I specifically remember was when it was 8 degrees in January 2009 and we were waiting on Obama's inauguration parade route (which of course was delayed by like 2 hours).

Even then that was A LOT.

Ok last one ... if the person is in a similar demographic to me I give more scrutiny to their complaints if they seem dramatic because of "all this"

More shit I didn't pick up as I age and/or am more lenient about than in my youth

-- Literally anything about individualism, meritocracy, etc. being a good idea
-- Language not being a weapon
-- Rolling my eyes at people's seemingly (to me) trite struggles
January 20, 2026 at 6:03 PM
Yeah that's how I feel about it since the usual case is like 15" promised everywhere and it's like 8-10" in the exurbs, 2" in the far suburbs, and rain in the snowhole of the inner burbs and DC.

Also I'm driving him from Ohio mid Sunday so I'm watching this with different eyes than everyone else.

Oof. The only difference between that and where I went to college is the blanket of lake effect snow and constant cloud cover averaged about 10 degrees warmer.

That said, I distinctly recall -30 wind chills more than I can count on my hand.

Ok that is important too! But it's ok to complain about it, definitely bundle up, and it's ok to stay home otherwise.

I haven't lived where this is a permanent thing for 25 winters now and I am too old to judge anyone's tolerance anyway.
