Fascinated by this "Duca d'Aosta" station in Campobasso, opened in 2019, accessible only by feet from one side, nothing of importance whatsoever closeby...

Austria finished the renovation of its monumental parliament in 2022, spending ~0.5bln €. Political parties had been delaying the renovation for years, fearing a public populist backlash due to the expected exorbitant costs.

One of Italy's oddities: most new technical installations will still use "hybrid" sockets that can accommodate German Schuko/Europlug, but also the "traditional" Italian 3-prong Type L plug, a close-to-extinction technical standard by and large unused in any device built in the last 2-3 decades.

Just checked on a map: Rails within walking distance from downtown, from UW campus, from the major hospital complex, from the airport terminal, from Camp Randall Stadium, but "not where the density is concentrated" (whatever that's supposed to mean in the Midwest)...

I just had a look at it, doesn't give much away from the outside. The 2 gates (only the right one leads to the elevator) are made by a specialized company that doesn't build elevators, so the entire package isn't even a shelved product.

'External opinion interference' seems like a popular talking point among Americans recently. There is just a very thin, fine line between being annoyed by foreign armchair experts lecturing you and cutting yourself off from outside expertise.

Found this in an old article. 16 RV + 16 IC should indeed be something like half-hourly service. But the I don't know, if this isn't outdated... The "1° Fase Funzionale" looks quite different from the link I posted above.

Gare de Lyon. Build a long distance underground station like in Bologna, just with 6 tracks. Make sure the red tunnels exist right from the start. If you find money, also build the yellow tunnel 😉

That being said, I'll admit that "all of England outside London is like the poorest parts of Germany" was genuinely news to me some time ago :-)

Interesting comparison on display along the Pustertal railway in South Tyrol, Italy. Left: catenary portal from the late 80s. Right: RFI's 2025 edition. The size escalation comes probably down to standardization efforts. Correct, @chittimarco.bsky.social ?

It's actually not that unusual in Italy that people get rid of bidets, when they restructure their bathrooms (space constraints in modern appartments...). Also a good indicator that a significant part of the alleged high usage numbers come down to 'prestige answers' ("Yes, of course, I use it!").

Have to agree that the body mechanics for using a bidet are stupid, but this is a solved problem. Below you see the best system on Earth and I can't wait for my fellow Europeans to get finally civilized by South Asians.

Suggestion: The far greater likelihood of catastrophic events caused by rainfall lead to greater awareness and sensitivity regarding rainwater management in central and southern Europe?

This doesn't mean NYC isn't diverse, but does it really 'beat' everyone else? Just consider this: One of the linguistic diversity hotspots on this planet happens to be West Africa. African migration into Europe is a magnitude higher than into the US. France alone has a 50% bigger African-born... 2/3

...connect to the legacy "Suburban Railway" lines which run east and west of BKC. The willful avoidance of transfer stations between metro and local trains is systematic in the Mumbai Metro plans. Probably excellent candidates for your bad projects list.

Jetzt erfrecht...
