“Starving children screaming for food as US aid cuts unleash devastation and death across Myanmar”

Never forget or forgive that Trump, Rubio, & Musk *chose* to inflict this monumental level of death and suffering on the poorest & most vulnerable people.
Starving children screaming for food as US aid cuts unleash devastation and death across Myanmar
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has repeatedly said “no one has died" because of his government’s decision to gut its foreign aid program.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

I spent today working 1:1 with a third grader in the Structured Learning classroom (think one step above full special ed class) which was fun but very tiring. He likes to do headstands which are not allowed so it was a lot of "Okay, we are going to put our feet on the ground now" all day lol

"most of us never thought to counter that argument because it’s stupid and doesn’t make any sense"

is basically the entirety of the present situation on every front

I think something we have to do more of is talk about how kickass a lot of American cities are because right now some people think they’re run by Sharia Law nudists and most of us never thought to counter that argument because it’s stupid and doesn’t make any sense

BEST BIG CITY IN THE US 9 YEARS IN A ROW.

While critics try to paint Chicago as something to fear, the rest of the world knows the truth — this is the best big city in America.

MAGA is a wholesale rejection of the Enlightenment including stuff so basic that we don't even think of it being part of the Enlightenment project--like being polite to people and making social interactions smooth and pleasant.

We really hit on something with the 12 year old theory of governance because that’s really the entire political project. It’s being 12 years old and not even normal 12 year olds but real pieces of shit 12 year olds

The NY Times continues to be the biggest sucker in the world for bad faith bullshit, just so the publisher can claim they're not too liberal and to pretend they'll somehow convince MAGA they're being fair to them.

Despite appearances, this is not a @nytpitchbot.bsky.social joke, it's an actual @nytimes.com column by some Claremont hack who praises Hegseth for his "nuanced vision of the military’s purpose and its relationship to civilian society."

Senior Pastor of First Presbyterian in Chicago, in clerical, praying.

Shot in the head with a pepper ball by laughing federal agents.

1. As Chris notes, in addition to journalist plaintiffs in here, there's a religious plaintiff: Rev. David Black, a Presbyterian minister who was filmed being shot by federal agents with what appeared to be pepper balls while praying outside the Broadview ICE office.

I just spoke with that pastor…

NEW: I'm listening in on a second new lawsuit out of Illinois today, addressing First Amendment freedoms surrounding protests, including press and religious claims.

Judge Sara Ellis, an Obama appointee, is hearing the TRO motion and has found the plaintiffs, for TRO purposes, have standing.
