Pete. Ocean and forest loving freediver. Often talking about James Cameron.

The sea is your home.

I need to remember to log in here more often, so many faces I’d missed seeing

Avatar- The Way of Water- Skel Suit design. I developed this design from a great block out model done by the Lab dept. at Lightstorm inspired on a beautiful concept by Weta’s Jeremy Hannah, which established the gesture and overall proportions. So it was truly a team effort!

This is Dante.

He’s a young Caribbean manta leaving the estuary toward the open ocean.

This is his first documented sighting. I had the honor of naming his for submitting this video of his unique ventral pattern to marinemegafauna.org.

Safe travels, little Dante.

I generally didn't share too much of my diving footage over on twitter -- felt a bit personal for some reason.

I'm going to change that. Hopefully you enjoy seeing some fish in between my other nonsense.

For my #avatar peeps: Coelacanth was heavy inspiration for the “river fish” that Neteyam catches in the “learning to fish” sequence of Avatar 2. A direct reference request from Jim.
Coelacanths are pregnant for five years, the longest gestation of any known animal, and do not reach maturity until they are around 55 years old.

One of the things that initially discouraged me about Bluesky was sharing a petition and getting zero likes. It felt complacent.

We're so lucky to have the hardworking and passionate crew that we do on these films. The evidence is in every frame and piece of artwork.
For those interested, here is the higher res version of the Avatar: Fire and Ash creature image of mine that was shared elsewhere.

I have so many fun stories about the design of this creature that I can't wait to share! I think she's going to be a fan favorite! 💙

Feed is overwhelming filled with birds, the ocean, space, and art.

I'll hardly be the one to buck the trend.

Maybe it's just the initial interests I picked. But the feed over here immediately feels less harmful. I like it.
