A very offline cousin sent this to fam group chat. This story is breaking containment.

Yup.
it should be a tell about what's happening in the media now that most mainstream commentators seem openly frustrated that polling does not blame democrats for the shutdown

Stephen Miller said last year this was the plan. They said it out loud. Some of us highlighted his remarks at the time and warned how dangerous they were. Most of the media missed them and/or moved on from them. It’s happening:
Red states sending troops to blue states is a really bad idea.

There are many effective crime-fighting strategies with bipartisan support — sending National Guard troops into American cities isn't one of them.

Let's talk about MAGA censoring dissent and demanding loyalty, exactly like how the Nazis in 1934 when they outlawed dissent, criticism, and making jokes about the Party and Hitler. In 2025, only Nazis do Nazi fuckshit. I said it. Watch the video: https://youtu.be/XtiOpZ5RzUc

While Stephen Miller claims that Democrats calling him a fascist constitutes incitement, there are hundreds of examples of Miller publicly calling Democrats fascists.

The Right is nakedly trying to make it illegal to call them fascists which is about the most obviously fascist thing you could come up with.

A memorial-service reminder that there are no feelings about Kirk you are required to "respect." He was an unregenerate bigot and misogynist who seized on a shrewd grift and used it to make our world worse. I fear that we can't yet measure his legacy, but that's all he deserves to be remembered for.

If you want to understand the failure of our media, since Kirk’s murder Republicans have fanned out across the media for interviews, all claiming Dems calling Trump ‘fascist’ causes violence. And not a single interviewer has pushed back with: ‘But Trump called Harris a fascist!’

This is the most sobering post of the day. Aaron is absolutely right.

This is the most brazenly corrupt, authoritarian regime the U.S. has probably ever seen.

It is a test we cannot fail to rise to. Trump must be (legally) removed from office. Congress must act.
There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes. It’s like the Watergate tapes but posted on social media. Let’s get a grip on what’s happening here.

Stop. Just be a hypocrite. Don’t insult anybody’s intelligence with this attempt to rationalize it. You have power, and you’re using it to reproduce your own version of cancel culture. Just own it.

I plan to post this ABC News supercut video of Trump calling Harris and Democrats "fascists" (and "communists"!) everytime I see a Republican on TV whining about Trump being called a "fascist" by the left.

Oh, the hypocrisy! Oh, the gaslighting!

I'll add it was never about the points being made. You can see the audience reaction in comments, which was solely about identity. Kirk "owning" some purple-haired college girl they hate because she'd never date them. They never even hear what she said.
This gets to something that as a former stand-up I recognized but couldn’t name. A 31 year old professional content creator baiting 19 year old amateurs into the format of his choice isn’t debate, it’s crowd work. It’s debate-shaped crowd work farmed for content.
One thing that I think some not-youngs forget (and is different from 20 years ago) is that Kirk used his ‘debates’ to generate video that could go viral and, to use an old phrase, catapult the propaganda. His debates weren’t in any way, shape, or form educational.

This is what we should be vigilant about and fight against.
Journalist @mehdirhasan.bsky.social
points out that Trump and his allies are erasing instances of political violence against Democrats as they rush to blame the "far left" for the assassination of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

Trump's new push to ban mail-in ballots is not b/c of traditional Republican hostility to making voting easier, but because he's planning on sending ICE goon squads/red state LEO proxies to conduct voter intimidation ops in blue precinct polling places under guise of "making sure only citizens vote"
