Happy National Pet Day! A Navajo word for a pet, łį́į́ʼ, originally described a dog. But when horses were reintroduced to North America (and became the favoured “pet” in Navajo culture) the word łį́į́ʼ shifted to refer to a horse. From then on, dogs were instead known as łééchąąʼí. It means “shit pet”
