it feels harder to escape the really judgmental connotations of “cheesy” in a drama
I always side-eye when someone calls the original Star Trek “cheesy” because I’m like, do you mean the styrofoam boulders, or do you mean men declaring their heartfelt belief in humanity with their whole chest

For me it's being a lifelong sci-fi nerd. My fave is when they "elevate" it in a way that's like, 49 cliches wrapped in fancy expensive packaging and they're like, "No one has ever done this aren't we smart" and I'm like, i dunno, read ONE book?????
