why is this important?

5A protects you against being compelled to produce or enter your password when demanded by law enforcement. it's considered testimony.

biometrics aren't.
Yes. It's a weird result of the fact that you may not be compelled to testify against yourself, but the qualities of your body are not considered "testimony."

that’s really cool. I have a feeling that down the line Mamdani’s approach will become a model for the country once the tables turn

this is something that’s been on my mind, how most online platforms can very easily be compromised. I wonder if it would useful to set up a decentralised network/instance like mastodon as backup, maybe even on a server abroad? or maybe these already exist?

Essentially, what stops abductions is when crowds outnumber the masked kidnappers. When people aggressively follow ICE with whistles and horns, crowds are ready to show up. If they show up fast enough, ICE leaves and a family is not broken. (People here understand the stakes).

Walking along the shore at night you come across a huge crowd of people dancing around a bonfire. They leap and frolic in frantic ecstasy. As you watch, one dancer hands a giant bushel-basket full of hundred dollar bills to a man at the center, who throws the cash on the fire. Everyone cheers.

"I'm being paid the same now, when I make 500 shirts a day, as I did when I made 50 shirts a day. Where the fuck is the money going?"

The popular idea of luddites is entirely due to generations of capitalists trying their damnedest to obscure what is a very simple issue.
