“Russia is no longer a superpower.”
— Kaja Kallas
The EU’s chief diplomat argues Moscow’s gains are marginal, but the cost has been immense: ~1.2M casualties, economic strain, loss of Europe’s energy market, and a steady population outflow.

No surprise there. Ru wants Ukraine to surrender but can’t compel them. Ukraine isn’t losing on the battlefield and they don’t want to submit to Ru occupation. The US is not an honest broker but trying to help Ru achieve its goals diplomatically. US has stopped aid to Ukr so it has little leverage.

The US “Ambassador” now demands that the Belgian government condemns one of its political leaders. This kind of political interference is unacceptable. Bill White’s accreditation should be revoked. The 🇪🇺 should issue a statement supporting 🇧🇪.
The US ambassador to Belgium has refused to apologise for accusing Belgium of antisemitism over a ritual circumcision law.

This is the extent to which Trump's regime is involving itself in even the most minute areas of European domestic law. They now have something to say about Belgian penises.

The EPP has a long tradition of shielding its own against EU scrutiny on the rule of law. It long protected Orbán when Fidesz was still member of the EPP, and now it is blocking rule of law fact finding missions to Meloni‘s Italy, who has become an important EPP ally.
According to EPP's press release, they are "concerned about signs of rule of law backsliding in a number of Member States"

But the 4 countries they list all happen to be governed by parties not in EPP or ECR 🤔

Spain is clearly their focus. Could it be related to Sanchez's vocal criticism of Trump?

Quite amazing that the US is jeopardizing EU unity because it doesn't want to lose military contract so it's putting pressure on Nawrocky to say no. The hard right doesn't give a fig about Europe because it will always be in the pockets of whoever pays more.
Outside of the attention of the Brussels bubble, SAFE is turning into a fight on the EU's role in defence in Poland.

Despite Poland being the largest single benefitor at €43bn, the opposition PiS party is now heavily campaigning against it, with a veto from President Nawrocki in the air:
