My copy of the wonderful -Of Many Minds: Neurodiversity and Mental Health Among University Faculty and Staff- arrived! I'm honored to have the first essay in this collection; it's far past time for us to talk about all the minds that work (sometimes idiosyncratically, always creatively) in higher ed
A photograph of the cover of the book Of Many Minds. The main title is in bright blue, green, and red, and down the edges of the page you see a multitude of different pens, pencils, and highlighters, no two the same A photograph of the first page of an essay, by me, called "For Those Who Do Not Love the Archives."

I finished RADICAL HOPE by @thetattooedprof.bsky.social on the train last night, and I think Ch 10 “I Don’t Know…Yet” should be required reading for anyone who teaches, but especially in college. Building a learning space that allows for failure is just good pedagogy.

I’m three chapters into RADICAL HOPE by @thetattooedprof.bsky.social at my undergraduate Alma Mater Monmouth College. It strikes me, as I read this, that the way through the AI problems is this pedagogy of hope.

I desk reject manuscripts at Research in Higher Education if they don't engage with literature published in the field of higher education. If you're just citing psychology, engineering, or econ, send your manuscripts there. I can't find reviewers for interesting work in other fields.

Editor pro tip after reading several excellent articles that got nonetheless desk rejected

Not citing any scholarship published in the journal (or similar/adjacent) where you are submitting is a major red flag that your piece is off-scope

Embed your piece in a debate that matters for your readers

Lovely to be at a @polstudiesassoc.bsky.social #DiverseVoices workshop to talk about teaching careers.
These jobs are now often great and I feel good recommending them to this group. What's your advice for getting an education focused role?

So Mirya's help would obviously be much higher quality, but I do also have the bandwidth to do this for 2-3 people who are prioritizing teaching-focused positions (eg regional universities, teaching professor), week of August 11th. DM or email me.

Bit of a non-standard @alpsblog.bsky.social post today. I've been thinking about The Salt Path fiasco, whether it gives me a teachable moment with my students for next term and if so, what I'd like them to take from it and what the assessed work that comes out of it might look like....
Teaching Narratives: The Salt Path, Nature Cures and the Politics of Story
I could not have enjoyed Jennifer’s story of taking students to see a bonkers film more. However, even this totally wild story was upstaged by Susan’s comment which I am still laughing …

I am in dire need of case studies from higher ed instructors using flipped learning in the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, or business for the 2nd edition of my book. If this is you, or you know someone or can reach someone like this, @ me and I'll send details. 🙏

Hard nodding at large parts of this this morning. As someone who does occasionally ask forgiveness rather than permission, the annoyances of my personality shouldn't be a way of getting things done.
