This #frightfest review is a soft start for series 5. Still, give it a listen, it's always a fun podcast to record - even in the middle of a self-inflicted cold caused by air conditioning.

I think if social media just shut down and displayed this image from say midnight to 6am, we’d all have better lives.

I was going to go to Celluloid Screams this year. But an airbnb cancelled on me. Then, yesterday, my hotel cancelled on me. I guess it's just not meant to be - this year anyway.

Too late to book anywhere else now without being price gouged. Frustrating as hell.

ICYMI, my latest "Outside the Blue Box" article is up on the @thegeekshow.bsky.social Patreon - this month, I tackled DISCIPLE OF DEATH, a deep cut of Brit strangeness featuring Louise Jameson, Rusty Goffe, and the thoroughly fascinating man that was Mike Raven.

Brave new world coming up for Uncut in 2026.
uncutrobcast.bsky.social
#Announcement

Uncut is changing in the new year, evolving.

Well, half of it is. Of the two episodes we do every month, one of those will be staying the same, no changes, same old same old.The other one, however, will be a brave new world.

The new half will be called Uncut Presents...

We will be talking to indie filmmakers about their work and their influences. One of their movies, the other 2 will be titles that they love, or are inspired by.

Very excited about this. Its a brave new change and a brave evolution to the uncut podcast. This will be starting in the new year.

Here in North Yorkshire, it's about time the legacy of James Cook was looked at with big boy pants on, and new Fantastic Fest movie Marama does just that.

NEW REVIEW @thegeekshow.bsky.social 👔🧪🌃

Read here for my thoughts on TIE MAN, a home-made Canadian superhero oddity (just shown at Fantastic Fest) that is, beyond anything else, admirably singular.

Our first piece of #fantasticfest coverage this year is a odd one. Tie Man is a comedic fantasy noir with an unusual vigilante, think #Darkman but with more Ties.

graham and @uncutrobcast.bsky.social rob on an overlooked and ferociously political sci-fi show. Give it a watch, and then give this pod a listen.

In the case of house/hausu, I go with Hausu purely as there's a movie called House. I like Steve Miner's House, it's a goofy 80s comedy horror and I love those things, but it ain't no Hausu. Ringu though, that's just weird, too close to Kids TV institution Pingu.

I still have a page on twitter for the geek show stuff, and I only ever go on there to post a new article or video or whatever, and yet still - it hits you hard. What that place used to be now and what it is now, its shocking. Meme pages, rage bait and right wing rhetoric, it's just like Facebook.

This how I am spending my Saturday, sat in bed as it agony to put my foot on the hardwood floor.

I have the same injury in my right foot and that has improved massively since yesterday, so its likely not a long term injury (I hope).

But if its no better tomorrow, I'll sort something out.

We will be back up and running (so to speak) soon.

In the meantime, we are sorry.

And then there's the all bleak stuff that largely goes unmentioned. I mean, the attic scene is genuinely upsetting. Zombies have never been scarier than they are in that scene. And how futile the ending is. Dan O' Bannon script is a classic one that doesnt get the credit for how complex it is.
uncutrobcast.bsky.social
It's a movie of contrasts, what can I say. That entire "the movie lied" segment, before things go to absolute hell, is hilarious. And the nuts to have a dwarf zombie, an act - as far as I know - that has gone unrepeated to this day. And the NOTLD references are so cheeky.
uncutrobcast.bsky.social
100% with you on both counts. Its funny for sure but to call it comedy horror is to overlook the existential grimness just under the surface. That talking zombie head scene too, its horrifying. Send more cops and paramedics are absolutely iconic gags, a band even named themselves after the latter.

Didn't think that I'd end up watching a Conan O'Brien clip as research for a review for @thegeekshow.bsky.social unless it was either for MAC AND ME or something Paul Rudd-related. However, I have, and you'll never guess what for.

I looked at airbnb, the guy cancelled on me, and some other places which where super far away too. And I honestly couldnt be doing with that, so agreed there. And this one has a normal ceiling which is a huge pro for me right now.

Went with your recommendation for a hotel too. So, thank you, Faye.

Robert Redford was singular.

In his career, he went from being a true star, to directing thoughtful Hollywood entertainments, to being arguably the biggest champion of independent cinema in the history of the medium.

His passing leaves a hole in the movies that will never be filled.
uncutrobcast.bsky.social
Good stuff. And Thank you for bringing that up. Food is always the biggest test with any multi day event, one I failed miserably in at frightfest
